Background

Determine the effects of the enhancements made to settings screen UI and the addition of relevant settings like music selection for each screen in sprint 4

Questionnaire and follow up for major enhancement of features:

This questionnaire is based on the features added in sprint 4 to enhance the settings screen UI from sprint 3. Users were made to play the game via remote control on zoom. First they tested the game and settings UI from sprint 3 and then they tested the same from sprint 4. A SUS (System Usability Scale) evaluation was carried using the following template. The follow interviews are designed for the areas where there is a scope of improvement as found from the SUS evaluation.

UI development

The following options show the enhancement of the settings screen UI :

Option 1 -

Option 2 -

Option 3 -

SUS evaluation was performed on option 3 by the users.

Follow up interviews

  • Would you utilise the settings menu's music selection frequently?

  • Is the music selection button in the settings menu effectively applied?

  • Do you believe the music selection window could be improved in any way?

Follow up interviews

User1:

Frequency of music selection usage:

I might use it once in a while.

Application of music selection button:

Looks good and neat.

Improvements for music selection window:

The background colour can be changed to make it look more pleasing.

User2:

Frequency of music selection usage:

Its good to use for a change of pace and can be used once or twice a gaming session.

Application of music selection button:

It could be added to the top left corner of the screen as there is more empty space there.

Improvements for music selection window:

Name of the soundtracks can be customised.

User3:

Frequency of music selection usage:

I wont be using it that often as there are only 2 options. But space can be increased for music settings.

Application of music selection button:

Music selection button colour needs to be altered a little as it blends with the purplish background.

Improvements for music selection window:

It looks simple and straightforward which is ideal for such a simple task.

Conclusion

The overall feedback gathered from sprint 4 enhancements and addition of auditory feedback was more than optimal. This lead to the further continuation in the development of the feature. Many users found the music selection feature to be easy to use and didn't require technical aid. Users did not report many inconsistencies but recommended changes to be made to the music selection for Game Over and In game music to have some spacing from the center and the background of the selection interface. Many users found the feature non-essential and would prefer to use it occasionally. Overall, the users felt confident in using the feature which suggests proper implementation. The following UI was developed with increased contrast.
