Mage Boss attack method: fireball
As the team discussed before, we decide to make the mage boss shoot fire ball to the player.
In order to get the inspiration, I search a lot of images of fireball on the internet and I drew a series of draft. Based on the initial fireball draft, I designed the fireball look in the game.
In the first iteration, I designed a pixel style fireball based on the fireball drafts, which is a magic ball with fire shape. And in this iteration, I choose to use the colors of real fire to represent the fireball, which are yellow and red.
In the first iteration, I designed a pixel style fireball based on the fireball drafts, which is a magic ball with fire shape. And in this iteration, I choose to use the colors of real fire to represent the fireball, which are yellow and red. Then, I use this image to do user test with other people, most of people think this fireball has a bad shape and do not looks like a fireball, moreover, because the fireball belong to a bad character the color scheme for this fireball is too bright, so I changed and improved my design according to the feedback.
In the second iteration, I resigned the shape of fireball and use different color scheme with the first iteration. Because the boss is an evil mage, I use purple color scheme to represent the type of fireball is dark fireball.
In the second iteration, I receive many positive feedback of the color scheme, but for the shape of fireball, I still need to improve it. So, I decide to use the purple color scheme for the fireball and change the shape of fireball in next iteration.
In the final iteration, I still use the color scheme from second iteration, for the shape of fireball, I did more research about fireball and have the final iteration. Compared to the first two iteration, the third version have a clear shape of the fireball and player can usederstand what things that I try to represent. Based on the third iteration, I created a animation for the fireball.
After discussing with my teammate, we decide to design a flying fireball animation for the boss mage. Basically, the boss can generate fireballs stay around him, the fireball will stay around the boss until the boss shoot out the fireball. The animation and looks of the fireball when stay around boss is the final iteration of fireball. When boss shoot the fireball, the fireball will change its animation and look to the flying fireball, shown below.
