- Complete Peri Conference Theming
- Attendees: Julia Caffrey-Hill, Cary Gordon, Ranti Junus, Meng Qu, Jerry Yarnetsky, Derek Zoladz,
- a dropdown or other control at the top that changes the timezone from EST to a timezone of your choice.
- Have a box on top with "now on air" and link to Whova, but still have an overall schedule below it.
- Having time as a field. Check the time vs system time a) to allow "now on air" functionality and b) allow people to choose their timezone
How long is the content on Whova persists?
- Forever or until out of business- content from 2 years ago is still up.
What will happen after the conference ends?
- Everything will be copied to the C4L YouTube channel.
- Embargo period hasn't been decided.
Will it be available perpetually or will it eventually get dropped?
- Yes, until someone decides otherwise.
- Maybe consider moving content to Internet Archive down the line
How will the conference proceed?
- The conference won't have the infrastructure for high end coordination so all presentations will be pre-recorded.
- Video submission process hasn't been finalized.
- We'll have a slides template for general formatting, but we hope people use creativity. Yet, the template is important as they include space for content such as closed captioning
- Pre-recorded will help immensely with timing to avoid major gaps.
CC Transcriptions
- Advance submission will be required so captioning can be done up front.
- Humans will do the captioning in part because auto-transcribe doesn't do well for technical terminology.
Conference Model
- The model is essentially a Zoom webinar (as opposed to a meeting)
- Whova is a service layer that provides advanced functionality.
- YouTube will be used for archiving after the effect.
- Videos will be played in real time and speakers can be in the chat room and they could in theory answer questions during the talk.
- Conference goers will need to login with personalized conference code.
- Only conference-goers will actually be able to attend the live stream
- Communications will come down the pike soon.
Suggestions
- Include a link from the schedule page that leads to the conference site along with information that conference code would be coming from an email and information on interacting with the Whova framework.
- Will consider a schedule page that has a feature box stating what's "now on air" to communicate the in the live aspect of the feed.
Accessibility page - powerpoint template
- Looking for long term home for the template.
- Having it on the website GitHub or the C4L wiki?
- Having it in Github makes it available when the next committee clones the siter.
Reviewed Peri Conference Theming
- Julia will finish off schedule page design branch
- Meng is looking into the time zone shifter
- Derek will look into the on-the-air functionality
- Derek will add Talks and Speaker info when it becomes available (expected soon).
- Jerry will give the pages another accessibility review
