CX CARD: ADD SMA jack

WARNING: Doing this mod makes it more difficult to change the card bracket from full height to half height, but since i know of no half height brackets for this card, that might be a moot point. I thought i would disclaim it anyways...

You can do an SMA mod easier than BNC if you have a punch. BNC is more sturdy, but if you are careful, SMA is fine. Doing the SMA mod illustrated here instead of BNC, you will use vmux0 instead of vmux1 (adjust accordingly if you combine mods and connect to different vmux). This is just to illustrate the possibility, the info must be combined with the other mods to get it right. It is also possible to take parts of this mod and the direct wire bnc mod, to just remove c31 and use sma mod with vmux1 input.

You need to move c31 to the c16 spot, or you can combine with some of the direct wire mods to connect to the vmux1 cap (need to break traces for RCA jack).

  • obtain a metal punch like this: sma jack mod1

  • going to make a hole near AV1 unpopulated connector: sma jack mod2

  • use the 1/4 inch punch and female panel mount SMA jack: sma jack mod3

  • punch a hole in the bracket near AV1, doesn't have to be precise, just in the general area. You can do it with the bracket attached, as shown here, but i suggest you remove the bracket to protect the card: sma jack mod4

  • mount the SMA jack into the hole, make it tight, use 2 pairs of pliers: sma jack mod5

  • solder up your connector to the center pole. Note, in this picture i have moved c31 to c16, and removed the onboard filter components. This makes my mod compatible with laserdisc capture, but for tape capture you can just do the c31 to c16 move and leave the onboard filter components: sma jack mod6

  • finished and installed in computer. it fits, but removing the bracket and centering the punch would have been better: sma jack mod7
