Introduction

Music is one of the main design elements one can use in a test chamber, be for the goal of setting the right atmosphere or following a standard design parameter. BEEmod allows the user to use music from the portal games and some of its mods.

This page will cover the technicals of this procedure, but won't dive into the aesthetic choices one could make. For that, check other sources (such as the Valve Developer Community or Portal 2 Steam guides)

Using Default Music

To access the music tab in BEE2.4, open the "export options" window and select music:

You can now use music from Portal 2, Portal (1), Portal Pro and Rexaura. You do not need to install these 2 mods in order to use their music.

Using Music from other mods

To use music from Aperture Tag and Portal Stories: Mel, you need to have them downloaded onto the same hard drive as the game you are mapping for. If everything works, you should see their music in the selection window. If the mods are installed on the same hard drive and the music still does not appear, report it on the issue tracker.

If you would like to have music from another mod added, you can suggest it on the issue tracker.

Custom Music

BEE2.4 does not have an integrated tool to add custom music. However, it is possible to create a custom package which adds the music. Additionally, aerond has created the BEEmod Music Changer to add custom music, though it is somewhat outdated and may not work with the latest version of BEEmod.

There are no official guidelines for adding custom music. However, please make sure you have permission from the composer of the music to use it in your map. We are not responsible if your map gets deleted or you are banned from the Workshop for using copyrighted music.
