The function is private, so I found this way to mock it. Should I just make the function public because we need to mock this in the prover client (and also in PublicTxSimulator tests)?

Maybe for a future PR, I'm surprised all these are imported with relative paths and not with some @public/simulator, etc

I'm not saying we do, but you could also consider making this protected and subclass for testing instead of mocking.
I'm wondering: would protected be enough for easy mocking as if it was public? hmm

If at some point we could avoid this flag and maybe use a non-proving subclass here or something like that, it might be better.
