Drink Me

4% ergo macropad

However, this bottle was not marked ‘poison,’ so Alice ventured to taste it... ‘What a curious feeling!’ said Alice; ‘I must be shutting up like a telescope.’

Getting started

Hardware

  • The base and case are “snap-fit”; you can open and close them by pushing or pulling vertically with care.
  • Make sure switch pins are completely straight before inserting them into the hotswap sockets, otherwise the pins may miss the holes and cause damage.
  • It is recommended to remove the case from the base/thumbrest and support the hotswap sockets with your finger or thumb while inserting switches.

Firmware

Drink Me ships with VIA firmware preinstalled. To customise your keymap, install and run the latest version on your computer; when you plug in your Drink Me it will be recognised and you can edit the keymap in realtime.

You can also use the online QMK Configurator to create a custom firmware for your Drink Me. Alternatively download the QMK source where you will find example code and keymaps for Drink Me that can be modified to use any of QMK's extensive features.

Help & Support

Buyers can access personalised support by sending a message to the email address on the PayPal invoice.

Realtime support may also be available on Discord.

Production

You can use the files in the Releases section of this repository to manufacture the PCB and printed parts.

PCB

PCBs can be produced by submitting the Gerber files to a PCB manufacturer and requesting a 1.6mm thick PCB.

The PCBs for the official group by were manufactured by JLCPCB and the PCB designs are tailored for their service.

Bill of Materials

The following components (or equivalent) are also required for the PCB:

  • 1 x ATMEGA32U2-AUR
  • 1 x 16MHz 18P Crystal
  • 4 x Kailh MX Hotswap Sockets - available from KBDFans
  • 1 x Reset Switch SPST-NO 0.05A 12V
  • 1 x 4.7µF 0805 Capacitor
  • 1 x 1.0µF 0805 Capacitor
  • 2 x 0.1µF 0805 Capacitor
  • 2 x 22pF 0805 Capacitor
  • 2 x 5.1kΩ 0805 Resistor (for USB-C only)
  • 2 x 10kΩ 0805 Resistor
  • 2 x 22Ω 0805 Resistor
  • 1 x 500mA 1206 Fuse
  • Plus one of the following, depending on the PCB USB socket selected:
    • 1 x Hirose USB2.0 Micro B SMD ZX62D-B-5PA8(30)
    • 1 x Hirose USB2.0 Mini B SMD UX60SC-MB-5S8(80)
    • 1 x Korean Hroparts USB Type C TYPE-C-31-M-12 - available from LCSC
  • 4 x MX-compatible switch modules - available from many sources
  • 4 x MX-compatible keycaps - available from many sources

Where not specifically indicated, these components are available from Digi-Key, and compatible BOM files are included in releases for these parts.

Printed Parts

Four printed parts are available:

  • Case: the main part of the keyboard that holds the PCB and switches
    • This piece requires support material enabled for FDM printing
  • Base: and integrated base, back and thumb-rest
  • Back: a clip-on back to protect the PCB from dust
  • Rest: a separate thumb-rest

The Base and Back are “snap-fit”; they require fine tolerances so it is recommended to experiement with the horizontal or XY offset in your G-code slicer to achieve the most accurate results.

Modification and Development

This project is released under the GNU General Public License v3. You are encouraged to modify its content to meet your own requirements provided you respect the terms of the licence.

This repository includes automated scripts for various tasks. However, the PCB and geometry files can be modified in their respective software without recourse to these scripts.

Dependencies for automated scripts

  • POSIX OS (eg. Linux or OSX)
  • Bash
  • Gnu Make
  • Python >= 3.7
  • Meshlab

Python modules:

  • GeoTK
  • Kiplot

To install Python modules run:

make install-python
