@paularmstrong there are still some other ways that it's broken on IE8, and I'll look into those. |
People still support IE8? NOTE: I'm not going to go out of my way to have complete support for outdated browsers–especially since Swig is for node.js first and foremost. |
Make swig compile on IE8
So is there support for IE8 or not really? |

I mean the your test case fails on my IE8. What ever, it's finally rendered on IE8. That just spend my whole day to dive into the swig and IE8 with alert. |
I have no real interest in IE8 compatibility, long-term, for Swig. Swig is first, and foremost, for node.js. The fact that it works in the browser is just a nice side-effect of the fact that JavaScript is a portable language. For some nice arguments on not sending template engines to the browser:
Ultimately, IE8 was released in March of 2009. That's 5 years ago (from the time of posting this comment). A LOT has changed in the browser world since then. If you're still needing to support outdated software, the most up-to-date, cutting edge techniques, packages, libraries, etc... cannot be guaranteed to work without an incredible overhead and amount of extra development work for those supporting it. Considering that no one has offered any substantial interest in helping push Swig and aid me in developing it more than just a few quick fixes here and there: it's more or less just me working on Swig; in my spare time, for fun. I've debated, as well, numerous times, just removing browser support all-together. |
