@cliu123 How that will support existing deployments that use 2.x Kafka server? Have you checked Kafka 3.x client for backward compatibility with 2.x servers?

I did see the missing field(java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: DEFAULT_SASL_ENABLED_MECHANISMS) that the test errors out, which indicates backward incompatibility of Kafka 3.x. Actuall not only 3.0.0, 2.8.1 also has some missing class error(java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/kafka/common/record/BufferSupplier)

@cliu123 My question is not about API backward compatibility that can be fixed, my question is about wire compatibility between 3.x client and 2.x servers.
