No, it doesn't support GIFs. Currently supported formats are: jpg, png, bmp and svg. We are working on expanding the supported formats (Haven't considered GIFs yet).

How come it tried to parse GIF?

It didn't try to parse it. Every file in the directory, regardless of the format, is a candidate for being considered for deduplication. When the file format isn't one that is supported, the mentioned warning gets raised.
