UX Researcher created a research plan for the Data Expert Persona with the research objective:

Understand how data experts would like to use their data expertise to give back to their community. Identify potential data expert users and better understand how they would like to work with open source data.

Recruitment Strategy

Recruitment for the Data Expert persona was done in Hack for LA's Data Science Community of Practice by reaching out to the CoP lead and asking to make an announcement for interviews at the beginning of the weekly meeting.

We provided a screener survey for potential interviewees to fill out to get contact information, background information on individuals and to see if they fit our targeted audience.

If participant fit the target audience, the research team reached out to them via email to set up interviews. Template for email responses for all researchers who were to conduct interviews can be found below:

Scripts

Created script for Data Expert interviews used by all researchers conducting interviews. Script aimed to support an open-ended and conversational interview. It includes introduction that requested permission to record interview, questions, sub questions that reference survey responses with logic to why were asking the questions and how to dig deeper and closing statements.

Synthesis (Miro or Figjam)

An researcher went through all recorded interviews and analyzed the data and determined 3 phases of analysis with 3 different tools.

First phase of analysis was done through an Affinity Map to look at all the data points and group them into clusters to determine themes and categories.

Second phase of analysis was developing an empathy map to start capture the behavior and attitude of the persona and how they communicate by defining what they would say, think, do and feel.

Last phase of the synthesis is the persona.
