Tree Parameters
Controls the shape of the tree by altering the first level branch length. Custom uses the envelope defined by the pruning parameters to control the tree shape directly rather than through pruning. There are 8 shape presets in addition to the Custom option:
- Conical
- Spherical
- Hemispherical
- Cylindrical
- Tapered Cylindrical
- Flame
- Inverse Conical
- Tend Flame
These are shown in the same order in the image below, with all other parameters kept constant.
Number of levels of branching, typically 3 or 4. The image below shows the aspen for branching levels 1, 2 and 3. It is often useful when designing a new tree to start with branching level 1 and design each level incrementally.
Fractional amount by which the effect of pruning is applied.
Width of the pruning envelope as a fraction of its height (the maximum height of the tree).
The fractional distance from the bottom of the pruning up at which the peak width occurs.
The curvature of the lower section of the pruning envelope. < 1 results in a convex shape, > 1 in concave.
The curvature of the upper section of the pruning envelope. < 1 results in a convex shape, > 1 in concave.
Number of splits at base height on trunk, if negative then the number of splits will be a random number from 0 up to this value.
How much the radius at the base of the trunk increases as a fraction of the trunk radius. The image below shows trunk with flare 0 and 0.6.
Scale of the entire tree.
Maximum variation in size of the entire tree.
Influence upon the growth direction of the tree in the x, y and z directions, the z element only applies to branches in the second level and above. Useful for simulating the effects of gravity, sunlight and wind. The image below shows the Silver Birch preset generated with 0 tropism in all directions, negative vertical tropism (gravity) and both vertical and lateral tropism (gravity + wind).
Ratio of the stem length to radius.
How drastically the branch radius is reduced between branching levels.
