This looks like a sensible proposal. The only thing that I would wonder is, given the imminent merging of the derivatives PR, how should this passage read after the merge?
Will this top-level derivatives be the "derivatives" described by the updated spec? Can we reference the recommended way to link/crossreference these the rawdata and derivatives directories? (aside from sitting in the same directory).
