Are we planning on keeping the babel-minify name? Might be better to have a distinct name for it so it can be marketed better. Being separate from the Babel brand, regardless of if it's in the org might be better too since Babel has historically had the stigma of trying to be everything at once.

Some other suggestions:

@kangax kinda suggested David (David and Goliath) but since its a bit generic we could use a name that refers to him like the Psalmist.

We also can continue the babel/babylon (there's also babylonia) theme would could do Nebuchadnezzar (a king of Babylon), Nezzar for short, or even the prophets who spoke of Babylon (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel).

We should avoid a gender-specific name IMO.

I agree with Sebastian. David is just not a good name (I was only brainstorming through "small" characters). I like something neutral and unique-ish like Pixie. Apollo is nice too since it's soooort of gender neutral.

@kittens Yeah I didn't really think about that - sounds good. I think Psalmist (composer of a psalm or song) or Babylonia (region containing babylon) could still work.

@kangax Haha lets just name it an emoji/emojis. 💩

All free names:

  • Sumer (pre-Babylonian civilization) npm/sumer
  • Akka (Akkadian: the language spoken by Babylonians) npm/akka (name already used in Java)
  • Babili ("Babylon" in Akkadian) npm/babili (🌟 nothing big uses this name and it's not trademarked)
  • Meso (Mesopotamia) npm/meso (package taken but empty, npm will give it to you because squatting is not allowed)

These are all fun (we were just discussing in a channel) but I'm afraid are too short to be properly searchable/recognizable/identifieable-from-other-abbreviations-like-stock-market and so on.

I still like Babili the best. I think we should go with that.
