Description of changes:
This PR does absolutely nothing except undoing the revert commit that removed #386. So this PR is identical to #386. Future fixes will be needed to address #411 and some other issues, but I think it is best to apply those fixes on an individual basis, rather than grouping them with this behemoth change.
