New surface lab building / research facility #28722
Conversation
Still need items in the base maps
Item spawns: done, for phase one at least! |
…ns. Do all kinds of stuff.
This is done! DONE! DOOONE! This PR is done. Next I'll be working on another one to finish some things I just couldn't fit into this one reasonably. |
A screenshot would be helpful. |
Likely not, there's too much for a single screenshot. Instead I made you an entire brochure. Welcome to H. R. Bennett research labs. |
Needs json linting BTW. |
This pull request has been mentioned on Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. There might be relevant details there: https://discourse.cataclysmdda.org/t/so-i-came-across-the-research-facility-superstructure/19434/2 |
Summary
SUMMARY: Content "Adds a new large facility to be the surface entrance for secret Labs."
Purpose of change
I don't know if you've seen a lab entrance recently, but it kind of looks like a concrete brick with a tacked-on handful of beds and things. Not only is it boring, but it doesn't exactly scream "prying eyes, avoid this facility even though huge truckloads of things are going in and out."
Describe the solution
This creates a large (VERY large) surface research facility for use with classic underground Labs, and also later to represent civilian research facilities and universities.
#Welcome to the Department of Energy's H.R. Bennett Research Labs
Welcome, new employee, to H.R. Bennett Research Labs. This federally funded facility is one of the largest, most state of the art research centers in New England! As part of the "United We Stand" initiative, we enjoy a high level of federal funding and research latitude. Working here will be the experience of your life!
Parking
On-site parking is conveniently located behind our constantly-staffed forward security gate, where our friendly guards will make sure your vehicle is kept safe behind a ten foot high brick wall topped with razor wire. Only the best for you, our valued employee!
Main Entrance
On your first visit to HRB, you will notice the wide and inviting main atrium. HRB has an in-house Ludicrous Cafe, providing you with your stimulant needs at affordable prices. The main floor of the building is dedicated to comfortable meeting and lecture halls for the smooth sharing of information with other team members.
Meditation Garden
Is the stress of research in a high stakes environment getting to you? We know how hard it can be dedicating everything you are to the safety and well-being of your fellow Americans. Try a walk in our calming meditation garden, it will help!
Loading Dock
As part of the "United We Stand" initiative, HRB experiences a constant in-and-out flow of cargo. What you want? Baby, we've got it! All we ask is for a little security. Please stay out of the loading dock area without Epsilon-3 or higher security clearance.
Roof Area
Our satellite array maintains a constant uplink to Melchior, the federal research assistant AI. You can obtain Melchior data predictions within 2 milliseconds, one of the fastest uplink speeds of any facility!
There are no roof rails. Please stay off the roof. The Department of Energy takes no responsibility for injuries sustained exploring unauthorized areas.
Offices and Seating Areas
Designed by award-winning ergometric architect Manderson Spølls, HRB boasts numerous comfortable Relaxation Zones, where you can sit with a tasty coffee and think about your work.
Personal Offices
If you enjoy a rank of Associate Researcher or higher, you'll be assigned a comfortable office of your own. Principle Investigators with an Emeritus ranking get a gorgeous view on the surrounding grounds. A strict meritocracy, we at the Department of Energy are sure that you, personally, can make it to one of these offices. Just keep that nose to the grindstone!
Lab Space
Last, but not least, are our beautiful labs. Depending on your work profile you may enjoy a cozy personal shared workspace in a two-section lab, or be part of a larger project. Thanks to our participation in the "United We Stand" initiative, our labs are outfitted with the very best in analytical equipment. Need an NMR? You've got one. Want your own CT scan? We can get you that too. Want an MRI, just so you can shove your dog in and see what makes it work? Sure, what's a few million dollars for one of our valued researchers? Have at 'er!
Additional context
I will make at least one smaller surface facility once this one is done, probably a couple.
Next PR
I just can't do it all in this PR, we're pushing 4,000 lines already. Things to be added as soon as this is merged:
Security checkpoint before heading down to the basementdid this one this run through because I realized it might cause stairway misalignment problems if I leave it to later.
