Like many of the commenters on HN, I could not help but notice that it appears that you have reinvented the undo/redo algorithm that has been used by emacs since at least emacs 18.xx (1987–1992, approximately) and which may be much older than that.
You should be proud to have found such an excellent solution to the problem, even if you were not the first to come up with it. I heartily encourage you to plunder emacs for other excellent ideas about how to make a great text editor.

I noticed people complaining that I was implying a claim of "inventing"
something; the article says "learned" rather than "invented" in an attempt
to avoid such, but I sort of understand how people got the impression. The
intention of the article is not to take credit for things, but to convince
people who maintain things other than Vim & Emacs that a
low-touch improvement is possible without making the GUI messy.
I think credit is generally something one gives to a person rather than an
application. Stallman? I'd be quite interested in what he has to say.
