Eventually extend this type to perform:

Plan as summarized by @pritamdamania87:

  • Use jsonb for the serialization format.
  • The jsonb blob would be stored as a value in DocDB. Initially this implementation would incur a read-modify-write overhead for updates. Although, we would have an optional flags field in front of the serialized jsonb which could be used to perform incremental updates later on. The merge can then be performed on the read path to avoid performance issues.
  • In terms of query language, we’d support the postgres syntax for the query language since we intend to have postgres support in the future and reuse some of this logic there.

The CAST(expr as Typename) function is an important enhancement for our json datatype so
that we can use operators like >,<,>= and <= on json attributes and perform more fine grained
filtering for this datatype.

Summary:
YB Seq Scan code path is not hit because Foreign Scan is the default and
pg hint plan does not work.  Upcoming merge with YB master will bring in
master commit 465ee2c which changes the
default to YB Seq Scan.

To test YB Seq Scan, a temporary patch is needed (see the test plan).
With that, two bugs are encountered: fix them.

   Reason is initial merge 55782d5
   incorrectly merges end of ExecEndYbSeqScan.  Upstream PG
   9ddef36278a9f676c07d0b4d9f33fa22e48ce3b5 removes code, but initial
   merge duplicates lines.  Remove those lines.

Summary:
It is possible for tablet peer's `tablet_` to be null when a rocksdb flush finishes. We call `tablet_->MaxPersistentOpId()` after flush to clean up recently applied transaction state, and this causes a SIGSEGV:

It is possible for tablet peer's `tablet_` to be null when a rocksdb flush finishes. We call `tablet_->MaxPersistentOpId()` after flush to clean up recently applied transaction state, and this causes a SIGSEGV:
