www.youtube.com - Unnecessary side scroll bar is present when requesting fullscreen mode #105116
Comments
We appreciate your report. Based on what you described, the issue can be reproduced on other browsers and it is not a Compatibility issue. This is the result using Firefox Release: https://media.giphy.com/media/wvexSlrbL9je2kNKul/giphy.gif And this is the result using Chrome: https://media.giphy.com/media/LTtoBkzePutsb2hJYz/giphy.gif The scroll bar is dismissed based on the location of the mouse cursor, or by moving the mouse cursor, Tested with: Browser / Version: Firefox Release 100.0.2 (64-bit)/ Chrome Version Version 102.0.4004.63 (Official Build) (64-bit) @trunghung03 Closing this as Non-compat [qa_22/2022] |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMx3iO9u8cE This is weird. I have a fresh install of the newest release of Firefox Nightly and this issue still persist. No addons or changed settings. Hope someone else can chime in. Edit: Noted that mouse position doesn't matter (for me). Browser: Firefox Nightly (102.0a1)/Chrome Version 102.0.5005.62 (Official Build) (64-bit) Operating system: Windows 11 Pro 22000.675 |
It seems that while the title bar is still visible, the scrollbar is, too. When the title bar fades out, so does the scrollbar. With Chrome, the scrollbar disappears immediately after full screen, hence the confusion. My apologies. |
@trunghung03 Are you referring to the fact that when hovering the mouse away to trigger the hiding of the scrollbar, the scrollbar goes away faster in Chrome than compared to Firefox? [inv_22/2022] |
So 2 behaviours that I observed is different between Firefox and Google Chrome in Youtube:
The first point is already in the comments above, the second point can be seen in the screenshot below. (1st picture is Firefox, 2nd is Chrome) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_8DhLW_a9Q As you can see, in full screen Youtube on Firefox, the scrollbar can still be visible if I hover over it or scroll out of the video, but on Google Chrome, the scrollbar completely disappears with no way of bringing back. Not sure if this is expected behaviour or not. |
@trunghung03 Even with the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release, I am still not able to reproduce the issue. The side scroll bar is not present when in full-screen mode, and the video timeline scroll bar presents no issues. After reading: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/lija24/scrollbar_suddenly_visible_when_youtube_is/, I am wondering if do you have any imported add-ons when creating a new profile. With the new profile, can you please type in the URL bar [inv_22/2022] |
Here's the raw data of the "addons" section. If needed, I uploaded the full about:support raw data to the link below. https://github.com/trunghung03/about-support.txt/blob/master/support.txt |
From the looks of it, no add-ons besides the standard ones are installed. Funny thing is, the sidescrollbar is not present for me in Chrome as well, regardless of the steps to reproduce (scrolling when in fullscreen, requesting fullscreen, etc). When you tested with a new profile, I assume you did it like so:
Could you test the issue using the latest build of Nightly, 103? [inv_22/2022] |
@trunghung03 I was able to reproduce the issue. Requesting the full-screen mode and waiting for the title bar to disappear does not make the side scroll bar to disappear as well. The issue is reproducible just on Windows 11. Tested with: Browser / Version: Firefox Release 100.0.2 (64-bit)/ Firefox Nightly 103.0a1 (2022-05-30) (64-bit) /Chrome Version Version 102.0.4004.63 (Official Build) (64-bit) Notes:
Moving this to NeedsDiagnosis for further investigations. [inv_22/2022] |
Just in case it's needed, I tested this in Firefox Nightly 103.0a1 with a new profile and the scroll bar issue still exists. |
I'm not seeing this on my macbook (with scrollbars set to always-on, of course), so this might be Windows specific. |
