Issue: The lack right-to-repair is currently a major contributor to e-waste in the digital sector (which feeds into the Internet economy). We currently have recycling built into the specification but right-to-repair is only mentioned in passing.

Resolution: Hardware (and even software) can result in a significant amount of material and emissions waste as a result of the lack of self-repairability. Creators of products should allow for consumers to repair (to the best of their ability) the consumables they purchase, offering (if possible at cost) replacement components to resolve faults which occur. In the case of software faults, an open source policy to allow self-repair when support ends should be preferable.

This SC has now been included within the living draft. It will be added into the next published version of the specification.
