Sinds 10.9.3 you need to codesign executables. this is not included in the script.

sudo codesign -f -s - /System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/A/IOKit

Finally managed to boot, i havent read all the instructions carefully. I will give it one more shot. My aim is to run dell up2414q on rMBP mid 2014 via thunderbolt port. I can only run at 30hz now and wondering if this may help

I guess the patch does not work on 10.10.1 yet.
i'll update it in a minute, it is probably the same except the md5.

I can confirm that the 10.10.0 patch works on 10.10.1, and the way you used it is the way you should.

I've tried this patch with 10.10.1 on my MacBook Air 13" (4,2 => mid 2011), and can report it works perfectly with my AOC U2868PQU, connected using an Accell B086B-007B active adapter - it immediately recognised the monitor and gives me the full resolution. I didn't even need to use SwitchResX.

However, what I really wanted was to use the monitor with my MacMini (6,2 => late 2012). With the same adapter on that computer, all I can get is 2560x1440. The Air has Intel HD3000 graphics, whereas the Mini has Intel HD4000, so I would expect that the Mini should be able to handle it better than the Air.

I did install SwitchResX on the Mini in my attempts to make it work (before I found this patch), so I don't know if that's messed something up? Every time I try to create a custom resolution in it, at full 4k resolution, I just get the message 'not activated - invalid?'.

Anyone got any ideas what else I could try?

Here we have the all same problem again :( your air can be connected via DP Whitout the adapter and maybe whitout the patch and can possably reach 4k@40Hz with an custom resolution.

I currenly have no idea what is blocking us from using 4k with videocards newer then HD 3000.

As said before mij Air 2013 hd5000 won't work either.. I have the same monitor as you.

For now it is waiting for someone that knows how these things work.. And can show us the path.

Something else: do you have a line in the middle of the screen and some distored images some times? I may need to send back my display..

OK, thanks. I guess I'll have to wait, then. I'm a programmer by trade, but I'm not familiar with such low level code, so I'm not really sure where to start looking.

I haven't noticed a line in the screen. I just tried looking for one, and I can't see one, although I remember reading about such things when I was choosing which display to buy (but that might have been a different monitor - I forget). I also haven't noticed distorted images when I'm using it, but I've only had it a few days.

That reminds me, though: when I boot up the Mini with this monitor attached, the boot screen (apple logo and progress bar) comes up in full 4k resolution, but the bottom half of the screen (the progress bar) is distorted, like it's broken into horizontal strips which are placed into multiple vertical columns (if that makes sense). Then when it's finished booting, it switches back to 2560x1440. Odd.

I have the same in the bootscreen, only the top half works then the login screen is always black, so i have to guess whats on the screen and after logging in the 4k works fullscreen, this is probably because it is not fully supported by the hardware.

I bought the display somewhere and after a month of waiting for the delivery they told me they send all there stock back to AOC.. so i was tired of waiting and bought is somewhere else, so thats probably where the malfunction coms from..

Following the discussion thread here: https://code.google.com/p/mac-pixel-clock-patch/wiki/Documentation, I just found that if I copy the AppleIntelFrameBufferCapri.kext from Mavericks onto my Yosemite box, I can get full 4K resolution working fine on my mini (HD4000 graphics).

I don't know if that will help with your HD5000 graphics, but it's worth a try.
