A note about notes
#A note about notes
In Species+ there are plenty of "notes", tiny textual fields attached to all sorts of objects for all sorts of purposes. Let's go over the different categories of notes available.
There are 2 types of annotations, for lack of better name referred to as "hash" and "non-hash".
These annotations refer to plants only. A new set of these annotations is collated after every CoP. They can be edited under Events / CITES hash annotations.
These annotations are cascaded to descendants and will show up in:
- Species+ (legislation page)
- Species+ listings download (CSV)
- CITES Checklist search results (popup)
- Checklist downloads (CSV / PDF / JSON)
Presentation in Checklist PDF downloads is as follows:
- in the index file, the "short hash reference", e.g.
#4
, is included next to the taxon name, and current annotations key is provided at the end (current CoP - which is why it is very important that the is_current flag is used correctly for CoP events) - in the history file it is done similarly, except the "full hash reference" is used, e.g.
CoP17#4
, and both current and historical hash annotations are included in the annotations key.
These annotations are sometimes referred to as "taxon concept specific', because unlike hash annotations they are unique for every listing change. They exist in a "short" and "full" form. For example in Species+ we display the short form with a popup to expand the full note.
There are two flags which apply to how these annotations are displayed in the CITES Checklist "index" and "history" pdf downloads.
-
display_in_index
- if that is set, the annotation will be dynamically assigned a number, which will then show up next to the taxon concept entry in the index and in the key to annotations at the end. -
display_in_footnote
- if that is set, the short version of the annotation will appear in-line in the history, whereas the full version will be available in the footnote.
Nomenclature notes are populated in the process of performing nomenclature changes. They are set up to be presented in 3 languages, however at present only the English version is being used (that would need to be addressed if Species+ is translated to support the 3 languages of CITES)
Nomenclature notes can be attached to the following objects:
- taxon concept (editable in the popup editor)
- CITES / EU listing
- CITES quotas / suspensions
- EU decisions
There are 3 types of internal notes available for taxon concepts (on the notes tab):
- general
- nomenclature
- distribution
The following types of objects also have an internal note:
- distributions
- CITES / EU listing
- CITES quotas / suspensions
- EU decisions
