It seems to me that this project doesn't have any unittests.

This would be a good task for a funded developer (#101).

Ah I see. Then I would say the project layout is "unusual". ;)

No, it doesn't follow the today recommended standards (src layout and pyproject.toml). But this can be fixed quite easy.
