18Texas uses the core structure of 1851 by Chris Lawson and Mark Derrick. 1851 was later redesigned by Mark Derrick and published as 18TN. The design goal for 18Texas is to reimplement the basic incremental capitalization gameplay of 1851. Some gameplay differences are incorporated to align with recent games.
- The private companies are auctioned. They don’t have any special powers and players cannot sell them. Only use private companies up to the number of players. P3 comes with a president’s certificate of a random company. P4 and P5 come with a single certificate of that same company.
During a player's turn, they must place a bid (multiples of 5, minimum is face value) on any of the items. On subsequent turns, if they are already winning a bid, they must pass. The auction ends when all items have received a bid. Each player will leave the auction with exactly one item.
- Incremental capitalization, 50% to float.
- Companies pay a token fee upon float (no token placement fee). Place home token upon float.
- Company’s share value moves vertically up upon float.
- Sell then buy, always at the current market value.
- No sales until the company has completed an operating round (sales or share issue).
- From Phase 3, a company may lay two yellow tiles or one upgrade.
- Last step in operation is to redeem or issue shares (redeem limit up to 50%)
- Bankruptcy
- End of OR set after bank break
