Mapping Where to start

atheros edited this page Apr 21, 2013 · 6 revisions

This is not a guide about how to map, but how to prepare your environment for mapping and where to start mapping.

Installing Tiled QT

We use tiled as map editor, you can get it from http://www.mapeditor.org/.

Cloning the repository

Register on github.com and fork our repository (tales/sourceoftales, just press the fork button at the top right of the page). You can then work in you fork and push your changes there, so we can review them and consider pulling them into main repository.

See githubs Tutorial about what GIT is and how to use it. You'll need some basic git knowledge to keep your fork up to date and push your own commits to it.

Where to begin

Best thing is to ask in IRC what is currently needed. We'll try to give you a simple task for the start then. Remember, we don't guarantee that your map is used in the game! That depends on the map quality (we will most likely review it several times until it's good).

Please do not simply start mapping without discussing it with us before! Your work might be useless for us and will probably not be included in the repository.
