Welcome!! My name is Calvin Wilkinson. I am a software engineer with a love for software but most of all, for software related to game development libraries and tools.
A little bit about me
I became a software developer because of my love for games. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, my brothers and I played a lot of games and wondered how they were made.
One day, my brother brought home a programming book from school for a class he was taking. I asked him if I could check the book out and he of course said yes. Once I started getting the computer to do things, I was HOOKED!! The rest is history and since 1998, I have been writing code in some capacity.
Now after many years of work, kids and family, military service, and more, I am finally switching gears in my software career and life and doing this full-time!!
What is my goal?
I create open-source software for game development, including libraries and tools for 2D cross-platform games. Though developing games is fun, it can be very challenging. My goal is to make developing cross-platform 2D games easier, more engaging, and more importantly, fun! π
But most of all, creating games and seeing something on the screen generates motivation to learn more about software development. These skills are very important in today's world and can completely change your life like they did mine.
The biggest win for me would be for somebody to use games as a way to start with the world of software development which can put them on the path to enjoy the many benefits of the tech industry. π
What kind of projects do I have?
- Velaptor
- A 2D game development framework for creating cross-platform 2D games using dotnet and C#.
- CASL
- A cross-platform audio library for easily playing sounds.
- Plazma
- A cross-platform 2D particle engine.
I am also creating a game developer tool called Plazma Studio which is a 2D particle creation tool that is used to quickly and easily create 2D particles for your games which uses Velaptor as its source of rendering.
I can also provide C#/dotnet consulting to help people learn the wonderful world of C# and dotnet technologies.
How can you help out and why sponsor? π¦Ύ
The purpose of these funds is straightforward. To speed up development and provide these tools to people, I need the most precious resource that we all have little of, which is time. These funds help support me while I develop the projects and become more involved in the community. Any support you give is greatly appreciated and makes a huge difference!
Any sponsorship will have a major impact on the development of any of my projects!
I understand that recurring pledges aren't always possible, so if you'd like to make a one-time donation, we have that as well. π
Each monthly sponsorship tier will give you additional benefits. Some one-time sponsorships will have some small additional benefits as well. π€©
