This PR contains one commit for minor code changes for bugs I noticed while working through the bpmn files in the example repo.
There is a companion branch that contains the updated code here:

You definitely need to use that branch if you want to run anything.
I've redone the example diagrams and discussions using spiff extensions, mostly using our bpmn.js customizations and I've expanded the "Features in More Depth" and "Concepts" sections pretty substantially.
