Could you please add a plain text file within the firmware repository that fully describes the license for redistribution for the firmware? This doesn't appear to be stated anywhere, and would be very useful for people doing packaging.

After some consultation, license text has been agreed and should be added to the repository soon.

PS, @bluelightning if you're interested in OE/Yocto etc with the Pi you might want to take a look at the OE BSP @djwillis has prepared https://github.com/djwillis/meta-raspberrypi

Hi Paul
I think a file should now have been added to the repo containing
license terms for the binaries (essentially they're copyright
Broadcom, but freely distributable for any purpose relating to
Raspberry Pi).

Hi Eben,
Thanks but it doesn't seem to be there yet as far as I can tell...

I appreciate the effort to be more clear on the licensing of this - it is quite unfortunate that redistributions of any modifications for whatever reason will be in breach of this, especially when the size of the claimed codebase is so large.

Currently, the license applies to everything in the repository which is likely not your intent. Some of the code in there is derived from other, differently licensed works. You may wish to clean out the repository, or apply the licence to the Broadcom-only files in a different manner perhaps?

Licences have been added. Reopen if you think anything is missing.
