Description

The textbook is currently in transition to a new platform that allows for new features and functionality to improve the overall learning experience. While migrating to this new platform, we are taking the opportunity to further improve many of the existing chapters by including quizzes, animations, widgets, and other interactive components.

In this project the advocate will:

  • Learn about the textbook and gain techniques in writing educational materials
  • Get creative, helping design visualizations and interactive demos to engage users
  • Improve their development skills creating web components and widgets

Mentor/s

  • va barbosa ( @vabarbosa ), Software Engineer, Quantum Digital Team
  • Yaiza Garcia ( @y4izus ), Technical Lead at IBM Qiskit Community

Type of participant

The ideal participant should:

  • Enjoy writing and communicating
  • Be creative and enjoy finding new ways to communicate difficult concepts
  • Have some web development experience (i.e., HTML, CSS, JS)

Not required but a plus would be experience with the Vue.js framework and/or Web Components.
Design or illustration skills are not necessary.

Number of participants

Deliverable

Expected result will be updates to some of the Textbook chapters incorporating existing visualizations/interactive elements and possibly newly created component as well

So far in the project, I have finished editing Grover's algorithm chapter but am still working with the team on some feedback and possible edits to improve the chapter. The chapter already had a solid foundation for the algorithm, so I added more details useful for beginners and another significant example to make it easier for readers to understand the different approaches and ways they can design and build Grover's oracle. Currently, I am working on the quantum counting chapter and the QFT one in parallel because they are closely related. That includes editing the content and the code and adding anything else that feels missing or can enhance the readers' learning experience. Furthermore, I discussed with the team the possibility of adding a real-life example of Grover's algorithm that expands on the one added to the chapter but goes further into testing the algorithm on real devices and manipulating error models.
