True Color Reproduction (AHI)

mherbertson edited this page Sep 6, 2021 · 1 revision

This composite is a variation on JMA's True Color Reproduction for the AHI instrument (Himawari 8 & 9)

It appears that JMA utilize the following for their imagery:

  • Both an uncorrected and atmospherically corrected composite for blending at large solar zenith angles
  • Separate solar zenith cutoffs
  • Linear contrast stretch for brightness adjustment

This composite uses:

  • Only one atmospherically corrected composite
  • Custom crude stretch to improve processing time
  • Atmospheric correction with aerosol_type: rayleigh_only

It's suggested that a night band be used to blend out the imagery at large solar zenith angles.
