chore: remove 3 domains from Now-DNS section #2113
Conversation
@openhost-registry I've reviewed your PR, there are some things that do need to be addressed before it's merged. This PR will be placed on hold until the maintainers have made a decision on yours. FYI, I'm not a maintainer, just a community member who's a bit bored and just wants to help out the project :) |
Hello @Now-DNS Do you still need the following domain entries in the PSL?
Our volunteer has flagged that the project or organization (https://now-dns.com) associated with your domain may potentially no longer be active, and your domain could be removed from the PSL if we don't hear back from you. If the service has been decommissioned and the domain is no longer linked to an active project as outlined in your original request, please reply to confirm whether it can be safely removed from the PSL to avoid leaving unnecessary debris for PSL volunteers and future registrants. If your project or organization is still active, please let us know as well. Thank you! |
I just sent an email to |
@simon-friedberger I believe these are safe to remove as it is a similar case to #2124 as they have expired and have been picked up by a new party. All domains being removed in this PR are either listed for sale or parked which is not permitted as per the PSL's ToS. |
I agree with @wdhdev's assessment. I emailed now-dns.com but haven't received a response. All 3 domains were expired and picked up by others. None of these 3 domains are listed on their website https://now-dns.com or user portal, so no user can add or use them even if they do work. |
@simon-friedberger I think it would be worth removing this entire section from the PSL. It seems they are just letting domains lapse and some are getting picked up by new registrants. According to @groundcat's PSL private domain checker (https://github.com/groundcat/PSL-private-domains-checker/blob/main/data/expiry_less_than_2yrs.csv) and a WHOIS, the following domains are due for expiry:
In addition to those domains and the domains already included in this PR, I believe it is a case of "set and forget", and as time goes on the domains in this section will just become more debris to clean up later. Let me know what you think. cc @dnsguru if you have any comments. |
I don't follow. https://now-dns.com/ seems to be up and running, why would we delete all their domains? |
It's not that, I mean that a lot of their domains are expiring and lapsing, and they aren't removing them leaving debris for volunteers. |
Let's remove the ones listed in the PR and leave the others for now. This entry even predates the warning that we might remove the entire section so it would be especially harsh. |
All domains were originally added in #560.
Reasons for removal:
2023-06-05
according to a WHOIS lookup, which suggests the domain registration lapsed and was picked up by another party.site:ddnslive.com
on Google, only 3 results come up which are all "for sale" subdomains on dan.com2024-06-27
according to a WHOIS lookup, which suggests the domain registration lapsed and was picked up by another party.site:crafting.xyz
