Option to turn hitsounds volume off only

Hitsounds are mess when play with bluetooth headset, I'd like to not turn "EFFECTS" volume to 0% each time I play with bluetooth headset and have an option to disable hitsounds only.

While completely unrelated, Bluetooth audio devices are always known to have latency, this is the "mess" you're hearing. To narrow down the issue, play with wired headphones first and compare the results yourself.

Suppose the song plays at time 0ms, and the headset has a latency of 500ms. If the game is set up to add 500ms more silence to the start of the song, then, when there is no hitsound, the latency is completely mitigated.

When there is no hitsound, latency looks like:

• Song starts playing at 0ms and hit detection starts counting immediately
• The headset receives the signal for 0ms, but hit detection is already expecting the headset to be at 500ms
• When there is an actual note being played at, say, 50000ms,
  • The hit detection is expecting an input at 50000ms
  • The headset only receives the corresponding sound at 50500ms
  • The player taps immediately as the headset receives the sound, but the detection window has long passed.

And with latency adjustment:

• Song starts playing at 0ms, but hit detection waits another 500ms to start counting
• The headset receives the signal for 0ms, at this point the hit detection starts counting at 0ms, so the two line up
• When there is an actual note being played at, say, 50000ms,
  • The hit detection is expecting an input at 50000ms + 500ms
  • The headset receives the corresponding sound at 50500ms
  • The player taps immediately as the headset receives the sound. The detection lines up and latency is completely mitigated.

Hitsounds cause a mess like this:

• Song starts playing at 0ms, but hit detection waits another 500ms to start counting
• The headset receives the signal for 0ms, at this point the hit detection starts counting at 0ms, so the two line up
• When there is an actual note being played at, say, 50000ms,
  • The hit detection is expecting an input at 50000ms + 500ms
  • The headset receives the corresponding sound at 50500ms
  • The player taps immediately as the headset receives the sound.
  • An out-of-beat hitsound plays 500ms after the player taps.

I don't think we can even latency detection for most/all bluetooth earphones, even if we did that would involve:

• Running our own database of earphones and their latencies (more maintenance work - bad).
• Run a naive assumption of every earphone regardless if we don't want to maintain a db (also bad).

What's stopping you from making a duplicate of the skin (you mainly use) and replacing their hitsounds with silent ones?

Maybe not being able to do the same with the Skin Default (triangles for example)

Sort of nothing, except:

• This is something that has enough use to warrant having a toggle instead of having to jump through the hoops to create a skin.
• There currently does not appear to be a way to replace individual elements for Argon, Argon Pro, and Triangles. "Just don't use the (built-in and not bad) skins" is not a real answer.

1. The effort of creating a separate skin with each hitsound file being changed to nothing (most will probably end up going to the wiki for that) (i did)

2. If you're a mapper, having to consistently switch skins in the editor just for the sake of hit sounds

3. Doesn't work on default skins

4. Having beatmap hitsounds accidentally on completely messes with this alternative due to maps using custom files

5. Having to deal with 2 separate skins. For example, if I wanna change the ratings or something. I may forget to (current process) reimport the skin to stable, change the assets and then reimport it back to lazer for both skins. You'll end up with like 3 folders for the same skin if this is the case

6. Also a less annoying one. It uses more disk storage

Absolutelly nothing, but making hs sound adjust like this would be way faster than even downloading a skin that already has that. most of the features on the feature forum are 'quality of life' changes, and this is definitely a one that deserves to be in game, in fact, im surprised it already isnt, looking at how basic of a feature it is.

Media stream syncs properly with my bluetooth headset while hitsounds can be only played after you make a click, that's why it sounds like mess. Hitsound plays later at the same part of track than it does with wired headset.

I like the idea of being able to remove hitsounds only. It's not that I use bluetooth headphones, I use wired, I just don't play with hitsounds, but I enjoy the menu sounds Lazer has. I would replace hitsounds with silent ones if I were on Stable, but I'm not so I can't do that, or I at least don't know how.

I second this. Being able to possibly have a calibration option too for hitsoundless players could really work well, especially for Taiko and Mania players.

I would like to remove hitsounds only too, cause it's too noisy when play LN style maps of mania.

Good to know that it's being worked on. I don't like playing with hitsounds. I just wanted to mention that there actually is a toggle for beatmap hitsounds in the settings menu already in lazer. It just doesn't work and I wish it did, because simply muting effects, also disables sound effects in the main menu.

That's for when beatmaps use custom hit sounds, that toggle disable the custom ones and use the default OSU hit sounds instead.
