Per the article you cite:

There's no formal announcement or description of SSL for GitHub Pages; it could disappear any time.

Add to that the following comments (from same article):

  • You can't force HTTPS for your *.github.io site.
  • You can't use a custom domain name with a fully secured HTTPS connection.

I think this would be better as a mention in the docs for sites that need secure connections. My guess is that most folks using jekyllbootstrap on github pages don't need the SSL for general use. Those same folks would be inclined to research HTTPS when they wanted to add a feature that needed more security (e.g. accepting donations, ...).

If we update the docs, might be nice to include reference to CloudFlare (with PROs and CONs).

While this is a simple tweak, and has very low risk, I'm leaning towards closing without merging.

Thoughts?

I've used this feature, and put the site behind CloudFare. Very nice setup. But, for the reasons mentioned earlier, I'm going to add this to the FAQ and close without merging.
