Installation:

  • The 'ploink' fork is signed with a different key, so you must first uninstall the previous one.
  • Location permission must be granted manually, it does not ask yet:
    Open app info for 'GSM Location Service', tap Permissions, Location, grant access. In Android 10 this must be "all the time" access. If you do not allow all the time (background) access, Android may refuse access to radio cell data after a while.
  • Disable battery optimization for this app. Recent Android versions may aggressively terminate the backend to save battery power. In Settings, tap Apps & Notifications, Special App access, Battery optimization, select 'all apps'. Find GSM Location Service and set it to "Don't optimize"
