Per @kathy-phet's request in phetsims/qa#295 I am making issues in each published sim repo detailing the pointer areas and usability of sims on phone sized screens. Done on an iPhone 7 iOS 12 device.

Potential Difficulties Noticed:

  • pH measure is difficult to drag down without dragging down iPhone menu

pH measure is difficult to drag down without dragging down iPhone menu

@KatieWoe are you referring to the digital pH meter?

If so, did you have difficulty in dragging the body of the tool, or just the probe bit? I found the body quite large and easy to grab on my phone.

@arouinfar yes it is. It wasn't that it was hard to grab. It was that it is at the top of the screen when in landscape and so pulling it down drags down an iphone menu. There's likely nothing we can do about it, but I brought it up for documentation reasons.

This would be an issue with anything (in any sim) positioned near the top of the screen. And this sim has generous margins, compared to other sims (see screenshot below). If this is a priority, then we should be giving more thought to margins.

As for this specific issue... It could be resolved by shortening the probe length and moving the initial position (and drag bounds) of the meter down a bit. Let me know if that's something you want to do. Otherwise I recommend closing this issue.

Thanks for reviewing @pixelzoom. I think we can close this issue, but it might be worth checking in with @kathy-phet first. @kathy-phet can you review and advise?

@kathy-phet can you please weigh in on this issue, so that we can either close or proceed?

Chris - if its not much work, I think shortening the probe would be nice, so the body can sit a bit further from the top edge. (And you are right, it impacts things near the edge. I occasionally notice it on sims, in this case I think it is fixable as you mentioned so I think we should make the tweak.).

Should be a relatively quick change, I'll self-assign.

pH probe will be shortened in #160. Closing this issue, since that's the only change that was identified.
