Tested on a rpi2B, ran hackbench/cyclic test while streaming audio.

Using dwc_otg driver with fiq enabled.

TiejunChina and others added 3 commits June 18, 2019 20:01
We have not to thread the irqs shared between SPI and UART for the moment
in the case of -rt. But ideally, we should refactor that as a hreaded handler.

Signed-off-by: Tiejun Chen <[email protected]>
Fix lockup in dwc_otg driver that leads to a system freeze of the
4-core Raspberry Pi board when RT Preempt kernel is in use or when
interrupts are threaded in general.
The lockup occurs when the irq handler thread gets preempted while it
holds the fiq spin lock.
The patch makes sure to disable local irq while fiq spin lock is held
irrespective of whether the interrupt is threaded or not.
The patch also unifies the use of the fiq spin lock outside the fiq
handler by introducing two function-like macros fiq_fsm_spin_lock_irqsave
and fiq_fsm_spin_unlock_irqrestore.

Under RT kernel, the bug can be reproduced in a few minutes by running
hackbench and cyclictest in this way
$ ( while true; do nice hackbench 30 >/dev/null; done )&
$ echo "run 'kill $!' to stop hackbench"
$ cyclictest -a -t -n -p 80

Since commit eedd603 ("drm/pl111: Support variants with broken clock
divider"), the spinlock is not initialized if the clock divider is broken.
Initialize it earlier to fix the problem.

[ Upstream commit 198790d ]

In free_percpu() we sometimes call pcpu_schedule_balance_work() to
queue a work item (which does a wakeup) while holding pcpu_lock.
This creates an unnecessary lock dependency between pcpu_lock and
the scheduler's pi_lock. There are other places where we call
pcpu_schedule_balance_work() without hold pcpu_lock, and this case
doesn't need to be different.

Moving the call outside the lock prevents the following lockdep splat
when running tools/testing/selftests/bpf/{test_maps,test_progs} in
sequence with lockdep enabled:

vfio_dev_present() which is the condition to
wait_event_interruptible_timeout(), will call vfio_group_get_device
and try to acquire the mutex group->device_lock.

wait_event_interruptible_timeout() will set the state of the current
task to TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE, before doing the condition check. This
means that we will try to acquire the mutex while already in a
sleeping state. The scheduler warns us by giving the following
warning:

when CONFIG_PROVE_LOCKING is enabled.

This issue can be reproceduced by the following steps on
the R-Car H3 Salvator-X board if the backlight is disabled:

 # cd /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip0
 # echo 0 > export
 # ls
 device export npwm power pwm0 subsystem uevent unexport
 # cd device/driver
 # ls

The sysfs unexport in pwmchip_remove() is completely asymmetric
to what we do in pwmchip_add_with_polarity() and commit 0733424
("pwm: Unexport children before chip removal") is a strong indication
that this was wrong to begin with. We should just move
pwmchip_sysfs_unexport() where it belongs, which is right after
pwmchip_sysfs_unexport_children(). In that case, we do not need
separate functions anymore either.

We also really want to remove sysfs irrespective of whether or not
the chip will be removed as a result of pwmchip_remove(). We can only
assume that the driver will be gone after that, so we shouldn't leave
any dangling sysfs files around.

This warning disappears if we move pwmchip_sysfs_unexport() to
the top of pwmchip_remove(), pwmchip_sysfs_unexport_children().
That way it is also outside of the pwm_lock section, which indeed
doesn't seem to be needed.

Moving the pwmchip_sysfs_export() call outside of that section also
seems fine and it'd be perfectly symmetric with pwmchip_remove() again.

So, this patch fixes them.

Undefined instruction is triggered during CP14 reset, because bits: raspberrypi#16
(Secure privileged invasive debug disabled) and raspberrypi#17 (Secure privileged
noninvasive debug disable) are set in DSCR. Those bits depend on SPNIDEN
and SPIDEN lines, which are provided by Secure JTAG hardware block. That
block in turn is powered from cluster 0 (big/Eagle), but the Exynos5422
boots on cluster 1 (LITTLE/KFC).

To fix this issue it is enough to turn on the power on the cluster 0 for
a while. This lets the Secure JTAG block to propagate the needed signals
to LITTLE/KFC cores and change their DSCR.

…ntexts. (v3)"

This reverts commit 6103823 which is
commit b30a43a upstream.

Sven reports:
	Commit 1e07d63 ("drm/nouveau: add kconfig option to turn off nouveau
	legacy contexts. (v3)") has caused a build failure for me when I
	actually tried that option (CONFIG_NOUVEAU_LEGACY_CTX_SUPPORT=n):

	,----
	| Kernel: arch/x86/boot/bzImage is ready  (#1)
	|   Building modules, stage 2.
	|   MODPOST 290 modules
	| ERROR: "drm_legacy_mmap" [drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko] undefined!
	| scripts/Makefile.modpost:91: recipe for target '__modpost' failed
	`----

	Upstream does not have that problem, as commit bed2dd8 ("drm/ttm:
	Quick-test mmap offset in ttm_bo_mmap()") has removed the use of
	drm_legacy_mmap from nouveau_ttm.c. Unfortunately that commit does not
	apply in 5.1.9.

The ensuing discussion proposed a number of one-off patches, but no
solid agreement was made, so just revert the commit for now to get
people's systems building again.

Wu found it's due to commit ad6b670 ("mm: remove SWAP_MLOCK in
ttu"). Before that, unevictable pages go to cull_mlocked so that we
can't reach the VM_BUG_ON_PAGE line.

To fix the issue, this patch filters out unevictable LRU pages from the
reclaim_clean_pages_from_list in CMA.

[ Upstream commit 309b669 ]

In order to create an internal vport, internal_dev_create() is used and
that calls register_netdevice() internally.
If register_netdevice() fails, it calls dev->priv_destructor() to free
private data of netdev. actually, a private data of this is a vport.

Hence internal_dev_create() should not free and use a vport after failure
of register_netdevice().

struct dfl_feature_platform_data (and it's mutex) is used

commit 7298e3b upstream.

Currently the calcuation of end_pfn can round up the pfn number to more
than the actual maximum number of pfns, causing an Oops. Fix this by
ensuring end_pfn is never more than max_pfn.

This can be easily triggered when on systems where the end_pfn gets
rounded up to more than max_pfn using the idle-page stress-ng stress test:

sudo stress-ng --idle-page 0

-----------------------------------------------------------------
This patch is not on mainline and is meant to 4.19 stable *only*.
After the patch description there's a reasoning about that.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Commit 37f9579 ("blk-mq: Avoid that submitting a bio concurrently
with device removal triggers a crash") introduced a NULL pointer
dereference in generic_make_request(). The patch sets q to NULL and
enter_succeeded to false; right after, there's an 'if (enter_succeeded)'
which is not taken, and then the 'else' will dereference q in
blk_queue_dying(q).

This patch just moves the 'q = NULL' to a point in which it won't trigger
the oops, although the semantics of this NULLification remains untouched.

A simple test case/reproducer is as follows:
a) Build kernel v4.19.56-stable with CONFIG_BLK_CGROUP=n.

b) Create a raid0 md array with 2 NVMe devices as members, and mount
it with an ext4 filesystem.

c) Run the following oneliner (supposing the raid0 is mounted in /mnt):
(dd of=/mnt/tmp if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=999 &); sleep 0.3;
echo 1 > /sys/block/nvme1n1/device/device/remove
(whereas nvme1n1 is the 2nd array member)

This will trigger the following oops:

BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000078

This patch has no functional changes and preserves the md/raid0 behavior
when a member is removed before kernel v4.17.

----------------------------
Why this is not on mainline?
----------------------------

The patch was originally submitted upstream in linux-raid and
linux-block mailing-lists - it was initially accepted by Song Liu,
but Christoph Hellwig[0] observed that there was a clean-up series
ready to be accepted from Ming Lei[1] that fixed the same issue.

The accepted patches from Ming's series in upstream are: commit
47cdee2 ("block: move blk_exit_queue into __blk_release_queue") and
commit fe20086 ("block: don't protect generic_make_request_checks
with blk_queue_enter"). Those patches basically do a clean-up in the
block layer involving:

1) Putting back blk_exit_queue() logic into __blk_release_queue(); that
path was changed in the past and the logic from blk_exit_queue() was
added to blk_cleanup_queue().

2) Removing the guard/protection in generic_make_request_checks() with
blk_queue_enter().

The problem with Ming's series for -stable is that it relies in the
legacy request IO path removal. So it's "backport-able" to v5.0+,
but doing that for early versions (like 4.19) would incur in complex
code changes. Hence, it was suggested by Christoph and Song Liu that
this patch was submitted to stable only; otherwise merging it upstream
would add code to fix a path removed in a subsequent commit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
This patch is not on mainline and is meant to 4.19 stable *only*.
After the patch description there's a reasoning about that.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Commit cd4a4ae ("block: don't use blocking queue entered for
recursive bio submits") introduced the flag BIO_QUEUE_ENTERED in order
split bios bypass the blocking queue entering routine and use the live
non-blocking version. It was a result of an extensive discussion in
a linux-block thread[0], and the purpose of this change was to prevent
a hung task waiting on a reference to drop.

Happens that md raid0 split bios all the time, and more important,
it changes their underlying device to the raid member. After the change
introduced by this flag's usage, we experience various crashes if a raid0
member is removed during a large write. This happens because the bio
reaches the live queue entering function when the queue of the raid0
member is dying.

A simple reproducer of this behavior is presented below:
a) Build kernel v4.19.56-stable with CONFIG_BLK_DEV_THROTTLING=y.

b) Create a raid0 md array with 2 NVMe devices as members, and mount
it with an ext4 filesystem.

c) Run the following oneliner (supposing the raid0 is mounted in /mnt):
(dd of=/mnt/tmp if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=999 &); sleep 0.3;
echo 1 > /sys/block/nvme1n1/device/device/remove
(whereas nvme1n1 is the 2nd array member)

This will trigger the following warning/oops:

------------[ cut here ]------------
BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000155

This patch changes raid0 driver to fallback to the "old" blocking queue
entering procedure, by clearing the BIO_QUEUE_ENTERED from raid0 bios.
This prevents the crashes and restores the regular behavior of raid0
arrays when a member is removed during a large write.

The above panic occurs when loading two modules at the same time with
ftrace enabled, where at least one of the modules is a livepatch module:

CPU0					CPU1
klp_enable_patch()
  klp_init_object_loaded()
    module_disable_ro()
    					ftrace_module_enable()
					  ftrace_arch_code_modify_post_process()

      klp_write_object_relocations()
        apply_relocate_add()
	  *patches read-only code* - BOOM

A similar race exists when toggling ftrace while loading a livepatch
module.

Fix it by ensuring that the livepatch and ftrace code patching
operations -- and their respective permissions changes -- are protected
by the text_mutex.

…race_run_update_code()

commit d5b844a upstream.

The commit 9f255b6 ("module: Fix livepatch/ftrace module text
permissions race") causes a possible deadlock between register_kprobe()
and ftrace_run_update_code() when ftrace is using stop_machine().

The existing dependency chain (in reverse order) is:

-> #1 (text_mutex){+.+.}:
       validate_chain.isra.21+0xb32/0xd70
       __lock_acquire+0x4b8/0x928

-> #0 (cpu_hotplug_lock.rw_sem){++++}:
       check_prev_add+0x90c/0xde0
       validate_chain.isra.21+0xb32/0xd70
       __lock_acquire+0x4b8/0x928
       lock_acquire+0x102/0x230

       klp_patch_object+0x1a2/0x290
       klp_enable_patch+0x554/0x980
       do_one_initcall+0x70/0x318
       do_init_module+0x6e/0x250
       load_module+0x1782/0x1990
       __s390x_sys_finit_module+0xaa/0xf0
       system_call+0xd8/0x2d0

 Possible unsafe locking scenario:

       CPU0                    CPU1
       ----                    ----
  lock(text_mutex);
                               lock(cpu_hotplug_lock.rw_sem);
                               lock(text_mutex);
  lock(cpu_hotplug_lock.rw_sem);

It is similar problem that has been solved by the commit 2d1e38f
("kprobes: Cure hotplug lock ordering issues"). Many locks are involved.
To be on the safe side, text_mutex must become a low level lock taken
after cpu_hotplug_lock.rw_sem.

This can't be achieved easily with the current ftrace design.
For example, arm calls set_all_modules_text_rw() already in
ftrace_arch_code_modify_prepare(), see arch/arm/kernel/ftrace.c.
This functions is called:

  + outside stop_machine() from ftrace_run_update_code()
  + without stop_machine() from ftrace_module_enable()

Fortunately, the problematic fix is needed only on x86_64. It is
the only architecture that calls set_all_modules_text_rw()
in ftrace path and supports livepatching at the same time.

Therefore it is enough to move text_mutex handling from the generic
kernel/trace/ftrace.c into arch/x86/kernel/ftrace.c:

   ftrace_arch_code_modify_prepare()
   ftrace_arch_code_modify_post_process()

This patch basically reverts the ftrace part of the problematic
commit 9f255b6 ("module: Fix livepatch/ftrace module
text permissions race"). And provides x86_64 specific-fix.

Some refactoring of the ftrace code will be needed when livepatching
is implemented for arm or nds32. These architectures call
set_all_modules_text_rw() and use stop_machine() at the same time.

ifmsh->csa is an RCU-protected pointer. The writer context
in ieee80211_mesh_finish_csa() is already mutually
exclusive with wdev->sdata.mtx, but the RCU checker did
not know this. Use rcu_dereference_protected() to avoid a

If the CHAP_A value is not supported, the chap_server_open() function
should free the auth_protocol pointer and set it to NULL, or we will leave
a dangling pointer around.

MFC v6 and v7 has no register to read min scratch buffer size, so it has
to be read conditionally only if hardware supports it. This fixes following
NULL pointer exception on SoCs with MFC v6/v7:

[ Upstream commit 6da9f77 ]

When debugging options are turned on, the rcu_read_lock() function
might not be inlined. This results in lockdep's print_lock() function
printing "rcu_read_lock+0x0/0x70" instead of rcu_read_lock()'s caller.
For example:

[   10.579995] =============================
[ 10.584033] WARNING: suspicious RCU usage
[   10.588074] 4.18.0.memcg_v2+ #1 Not tainted

[   10.606220]
[ 10.606220] other info that might help us debug this:
[   10.606220]
[   10.614280]
[   10.614280] rcu_scheduler_active = 2, debug_locks = 1

[   10.640954]  raspberrypi#2: (____ptrval____) (rcu_read_lock){....}, at: rcu_read_lock+0x0/0x70

These "rcu_read_lock+0x0/0x70" strings are not providing any useful
information. This commit therefore forces inlining of the rcu_read_lock()
function so that rcu_read_lock()'s caller is instead shown.

Dulicate call of null_del_dev() will trigger null pointer error like below.
The reason is a race condition between nullb_device_power_store() and
nullb_group_drop_item().

  CPU#0                         CPU#1
  ----------------              -----------------
  do_rmdir()
   >configfs_rmdir()
    >client_drop_item()
     >nullb_group_drop_item()
                                nullb_device_power_store()
				>null_del_dev()

      >test_and_clear_bit(NULLB_DEV_FL_UP
       >null_del_dev()
       ^^^^^
       Duplicated null_dev_dev() triger null pointer error

				>clear_bit(NULLB_DEV_FL_UP

The fix could be keep the sequnce of clear NULLB_DEV_FL_UP and null_del_dev().

   cached device by kthread_stop(), dc->writeback_thread will be waken
   up to quite the kthread while-loop, then cached_dev_put() is called
   in bch_writeback_thread().
4) Calling cached_dev_put() in writeback kthread may drop dc->count to
   0, then dc->detach kworker is scheduled, which is initialized as
   cached_dev_detach_finish().
5) Inside cached_dev_detach_finish(), the last line of code is to call
   closure_put(&dc->disk.cl), which drops the last reference counter of
   closrure dc->disk.cl, then the callback cached_dev_flush() gets
   called.
Now cached_dev_flush() is called for second time in the code path, the
first time is in step 2). And again bch_register_lock will be acquired
again, and a A-A lock (lockdep terminology) is happening.

The root cause of the above A-A lock is in cached_dev_free(), mutex
bch_register_lock is held before stopping writeback kthread and other
kworkers. Fortunately now we have variable 'bcache_is_reboot', which may
prevent device registration or unregistration during reboot/shutdown
time, so it is unncessary to hold bch_register_lock such early now.

This is how this patch fixes the reboot/shutdown time A-A lock issue:
After moving mutex_lock(&bch_register_lock) to a later location where
before atomic_read(&dc->running) in cached_dev_free(), such A-A lock
problem can be solved without any reboot time registration race.

[ Upstream commit b387e9b ]

When system memory is in heavy pressure, bch_gc_thread_start() from
run_cache_set() may fail due to out of memory. In such condition,
c->gc_thread is assigned to -ENOMEM, not NULL pointer. Then in following
failure code path bch_cache_set_error(), when cache_set_flush() gets
called, the code piece to stop c->gc_thread is broken,
         if (!IS_ERR_OR_NULL(c->gc_thread))
                 kthread_stop(c->gc_thread);

And KASAN catches such NULL pointer deference problem, with the warning
information:

Therefore, it is not enough to only check whether c->gc_thread is NULL,
we should use IS_ERR_OR_NULL() to check both NULL pointer and error
value.

This patch changes the above buggy code piece in this way,
         if (!IS_ERR_OR_NULL(c->gc_thread))
                 kthread_stop(c->gc_thread);

[  101.691318][  T401] bcache: bcache_device_free() bcache0 stopped

Here is how the above potential deadlock may happen in reboot/shutdown
code path,
1) bcache_reboot() is called firstly in the reboot/shutdown code path,
   then in bcache_reboot(), bcache_device_stop() is called.
2) bcache_device_stop() sets BCACHE_DEV_CLOSING on d->falgs, then call
   closure_queue(&d->cl) to invoke cached_dev_flush(). And in turn
   cached_dev_flush() calls cached_dev_free() via closure_at()
3) In cached_dev_free(), after stopped writebach kthread
   dc->writeback_thread, the kwork dc->writeback_write_wq is stopping by
   destroy_workqueue().
4) Inside destroy_workqueue(), drain_workqueue() is called. Inside
   drain_workqueue(), flush_workqueue() is called. Then wq->lockdep_map
   is acquired by lock_map_acquire() in flush_workqueue(). After the
   lock acquired the rest part of flush_workqueue() just wait for the
   workqueue to complete.
5) Now we look back at writeback thread routine bch_writeback_thread(),
   in the main while-loop, write_dirty() is called via continue_at() in
   read_dirty_submit(), which is called via continue_at() in while-loop
   level called function read_dirty(). Inside write_dirty() it may be
   re-called on workqueeu dc->writeback_write_wq via continue_at().
   It means when the writeback kthread is stopped in cached_dev_free()
   there might be still one kworker queued on dc->writeback_write_wq
   to execute write_dirty() again.
6) Now this kworker is scheduled on dc->writeback_write_wq to run by
   process_one_work() (which is called by worker_thread()). Before
   calling the kwork routine, wq->lockdep_map is acquired.
7) But wq->lockdep_map is acquired already in step 4), so a A-A lock
   (lockdep terminology) scenario happens.

Indeed on multiple cores syatem, the above deadlock is very rare to
happen, just as the code comments in process_one_work() says,
2263 * AFAICT there is no possible deadlock scenario between the
2264 * flush_work() and complete() primitives (except for
	   single-threaded
2265     * workqueues), so hiding them isn't a problem.

But it is still good to fix such lockdep warning, even no one running
bcache on single core system.

The fix is simple. This patch solves the above potential deadlock by,
- Do not destroy workqueue dc->writeback_write_wq in cached_dev_free().
- Flush and destroy dc->writeback_write_wq in writebach kthread routine
  bch_writeback_thread(), where after quit the thread main while-loop
  and before cached_dev_put() is called.

By this fix, dc->writeback_write_wq will be stopped and destroy before
the writeback kthread stopped, so the chance for a A-A locking on
wq->lockdep_map is disappeared, such A-A deadlock won't happen
any more.

pelwell pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Dec 11, 2024
commit c7acef9 upstream.

Dennis reports a boot crash on recent Lenovo laptops with a USB4 dock.

Since commit 0fc7088 ("thunderbolt: Reset USB4 v2 host router") and
commit 59a54c5 ("thunderbolt: Reset topology created by the boot
firmware"), USB4 v2 and v1 Host Routers are reset on probe of the
thunderbolt driver.

The reset clears the Presence Detect State and Data Link Layer Link Active
bits at the USB4 Host Router's Root Port and thus causes hot removal of the
dock.

The crash occurs when pciehp is unbound from one of the dock's Downstream
Ports: pciehp creates a pci_slot on bind and destroys it on unbind. The
pci_slot contains a pointer to the pci_bus below the Downstream Port, but
a reference on that pci_bus is never acquired. The pci_bus is destroyed
before the pci_slot, so a use-after-free ensues when pci_slot_release()
accesses slot->bus.

In principle this should not happen because pci_stop_bus_device() unbinds
pciehp (and therefore destroys the pci_slot) before the pci_bus is
destroyed by pci_remove_bus_device().

However the stacktrace provided by Dennis shows that pciehp is unbound from
pci_remove_bus_device() instead of pci_stop_bus_device(). To understand
the significance of this, one needs to know that the PCI core uses a two
step process to remove a portion of the hierarchy: It first unbinds all
drivers in the sub-hierarchy in pci_stop_bus_device() and then actually
removes the devices in pci_remove_bus_device(). There is no precaution to
prevent driver binding in-between pci_stop_bus_device() and
pci_remove_bus_device().

In Dennis' case, it seems removal of the hierarchy by pciehp races with
driver binding by pci_bus_add_devices(). pciehp is bound to the
Downstream Port after pci_stop_bus_device() has run, so it is unbound by
pci_remove_bus_device() instead of pci_stop_bus_device(). Because the
pci_bus has already been destroyed at that point, accesses to it result in
a use-after-free.

One might conclude that driver binding needs to be prevented after
pci_stop_bus_device() has run. However it seems risky that pci_slot points
to pci_bus without holding a reference. Solely relying on correct ordering
of driver unbind versus pci_bus destruction is certainly not defensive
programming.

If pci_slot has a need to access data in pci_bus, it ought to acquire a
reference. Amend pci_create_slot() accordingly. Dennis reports that the
crash is not reproducible with this change.

commit 4bdec0d upstream.

Neither SMB3.0 or SMB3.02 supports encryption negotiate context, so
when SMB2_GLOBAL_CAP_ENCRYPTION flag is set in the negotiate response,
the client uses AES-128-CCM as the default cipher. See MS-SMB2
3.3.5.4.

Commit b0abcd6 ("smb: client: fix UAF in async decryption") added
a @server->cipher_type check to conditionally call
smb3_crypto_aead_allocate(), but that check would always be false as
@server->cipher_type is unset for SMB3.02.

Fix the following KASAN splat by setting @server->cipher_type for
SMB3.02 as well.

commit 51b39d7 upstream.

The drvdata is not available in release. Let's just use container_of()
to get the vector_device instance. Otherwise, removing a vector device
will result in a crash:

pelwell pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Dec 11, 2024
commit 7afb867 upstream.

open_cached_dir() may either race with the tcon reconnection even before
compound_send_recv() or directly trigger a reconnection via
SMB2_open_init() or SMB_query_info_init().

The reconnection process invokes invalidate_all_cached_dirs() via
cifs_mark_open_files_invalid(), which removes all cfids from the
cfids->entries list but doesn't drop a ref if has_lease isn't true. This
results in the currently-being-constructed cfid not being on the list,
but still having a refcount of 2. It leaks if returned from
open_cached_dir().

Fix this by setting cfid->has_lease when the ref is actually taken; the
cfid will not be used by other threads until it has a valid time.

Addresses these kmemleaks:

commit 2862eee upstream.

The function `c_show` was called with protection from RCU. This only
ensures that `cp` will not be freed. Therefore, the reference count for
`cp` can drop to zero, which will trigger a refcount use-after-free
warning when `cache_get` is called. To resolve this issue, use
`cache_get_rcu` to ensure that `cp` remains active.

pelwell pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Dec 11, 2024
commit dbc1691 upstream.

Boot with slub_debug=UFPZ.

If allocated object failed in alloc_consistency_checks, all objects of
the slab will be marked as used, and then the slab will be removed from
the partial list.

When an object belonging to the slab got freed later, the remove_full()
function is called. Because the slab is neither on the partial list nor
on the full list, it eventually lead to a list corruption (actually a
list poison being detected).

So we need to mark and isolate the slab page with metadata corruption,
do not put it back in circulation.

Because the debug caches avoid all the fastpaths, reusing the frozen bit
to mark slab page with metadata corruption seems to be fine.

pelwell pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Dec 11, 2024
commit be8f982 upstream.

The function `e_show` was called with protection from RCU. This only
ensures that `exp` will not be freed. Therefore, the reference count for
`exp` can drop to zero, which will trigger a refcount use-after-free
warning when `exp_get` is called. To resolve this issue, use
`cache_get_rcu` to ensure that `exp` remains active.

[  +0.000013] ==================================================================

The issue reproduced on VG20 during the IGT pci_unplug test.
The root cause of the issue is that the function drm_sched_fini is called before drm_sched_entity_kill.
In drm_sched_fini, the drm_sched_rq structure is freed, but this structure is later accessed by
each entity within the run queue, leading to invalid memory access.
To resolve this, the order of cleanup calls is updated:

    Before:
        amdgpu_fence_driver_sw_fini
        amdgpu_device_ip_fini

    After:
        amdgpu_device_ip_fini
        amdgpu_fence_driver_sw_fini

This updated order ensures that all entities in the IPs are cleaned up first, followed by proper
cleanup of the schedulers.

Additional Investigation:

During debugging, another issue was identified in the amdgpu_vce_sw_fini function. The vce.vcpu_bo
buffer must be freed only as the final step in the cleanup process to prevent any premature
access during earlier cleanup stages.

v2: Using Christian suggestion call drm_sched_entity_destroy before drm_sched_fini.

In commit 6e86a15 ("can: dev: provide optional GPIO based
termination support") GPIO based termination support was added.

For no particular reason that patch uses gpiod_set_value() to set the
GPIO. This leads to the following warning, if the systems uses a
sleeping GPIO, i.e. behind an I2C port expander:

| WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 379 at /drivers/gpio/gpiolib.c:3496 gpiod_set_value+0x50/0x6c

Replace gpiod_set_value() by gpiod_set_value_cansleep() to allow the
use of sleeping GPIOs.

System crash is observed with stack trace warning of use after
free. There are 2 signals to tell dpc_thread to terminate (UNLOADING
flag and kthread_stop).

On setting the UNLOADING flag when dpc_thread happens to run at the time
and sees the flag, this causes dpc_thread to exit and clean up
itself. When kthread_stop is called for final cleanup, this causes use
after free.

Remove UNLOADING signal to terminate dpc_thread. Use the kthread_stop
as the main signal to exit dpc_thread.

…imary CPU

commit b3fce42 upstream.

Commit

  5944ce0 ("arch_topology: Build cacheinfo from primary CPU")

adds functionality that architectures can use to optionally allocate and
build cacheinfo early during boot. Commit

  6539cff ("cacheinfo: Add arch specific early level initializer")

lets secondary CPUs correct (and reallocate memory) cacheinfo data if
needed.

If the early build functionality is not used and cacheinfo does not need
correction, memory for cacheinfo is never allocated. x86 does not use
the early build functionality. Consequently, during the cacheinfo CPU
hotplug callback, last_level_cache_is_valid() attempts to dereference
a NULL pointer:

  BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000100

  RIP: 0010: last_level_cache_is_valid+0x95/0xe0a

Allocate memory for cacheinfo during the cacheinfo CPU hotplug callback
if not done earlier.

Moreover, before determining the validity of the last-level cache info,
ensure that it has been allocated. Simply checking for non-zero
cache_leaves() is not sufficient, as some architectures (e.g., Intel
processors) have non-zero cache_leaves() before allocation.

Dereferencing NULL cacheinfo can occur in update_per_cpu_data_slice_size().
This function iterates over all online CPUs. However, a CPU may have come
online recently, but its cacheinfo may not have been allocated yet.

While here, remove an unnecessary indentation in allocate_cache_info().

commit ab244dd upstream.

Jordy reported issue against XSKMAP which also applies to DEVMAP - the
index used for accessing map entry, due to being a signed integer,
causes the OOB writes. Fix is simple as changing the type from int to
u32, however, when compared to XSKMAP case, one more thing needs to be
addressed.

When map is released from system via dev_map_free(), we iterate through
all of the entries and an iterator variable is also an int, which
implies OOB accesses. Again, change it to be u32.

commit 32cd3db upstream.

Jordy says:

"
In the xsk_map_delete_elem function an unsigned integer
(map->max_entries) is compared with a user-controlled signed integer
(k). Due to implicit type conversion, a large unsigned value for
map->max_entries can bypass the intended bounds check:

	if (k >= map->max_entries)
		return -EINVAL;

This allows k to hold a negative value (between -2147483648 and -2),
which is then used as an array index in m->xsk_map[k], which results
in an out-of-bounds access.

	spin_lock_bh(&m->lock);
	map_entry = &m->xsk_map[k]; // Out-of-bounds map_entry
	old_xs = unrcu_pointer(xchg(map_entry, NULL));  // Oob write
	if (old_xs)
		xsk_map_sock_delete(old_xs, map_entry);
	spin_unlock_bh(&m->lock);

The xchg operation can then be used to cause an out-of-bounds write.
Moreover, the invalid map_entry passed to xsk_map_sock_delete can lead
to further memory corruption.
"

For htab of maps, when the map is removed from the htab, it may hold the
last reference of the map. bpf_map_fd_put_ptr() will invoke
bpf_map_free_id() to free the id of the removed map element. However,
bpf_map_fd_put_ptr() is invoked while holding a bucket lock
(raw_spin_lock_t), and bpf_map_free_id() attempts to acquire map_idr_lock
(spinlock_t), triggering the following lockdep warning:

One way to fix the lockdep warning is using raw_spinlock_t for
map_idr_lock as well. However, bpf_map_alloc_id() invokes
idr_alloc_cyclic() after acquiring map_idr_lock, it will trigger a
similar lockdep warning because the slab's lock (s->cpu_slab->lock) is
still a spinlock.

Instead of changing map_idr_lock's type, fix the issue by invoking
htab_put_fd_value() after htab_unlock_bucket(). However, only deferring
the invocation of htab_put_fd_value() is not enough, because the old map
pointers in htab of maps can not be saved during batched deletion.
Therefore, also defer the invocation of free_htab_elem(), so these
to-be-freed elements could be linked together similar to lru map.

There are four callers for ->map_fd_put_ptr:

(1) alloc_htab_elem() (through htab_put_fd_value())
It invokes ->map_fd_put_ptr() under a raw_spinlock_t. The invocation of
htab_put_fd_value() can not simply move after htab_unlock_bucket(),
because the old element has already been stashed in htab->extra_elems.
It may be reused immediately after htab_unlock_bucket() and the
invocation of htab_put_fd_value() after htab_unlock_bucket() may release
the newly-added element incorrectly. Therefore, saving the map pointer
of the old element for htab of maps before unlocking the bucket and
releasing the map_ptr after unlock. Beside the map pointer in the old
element, should do the same thing for the special fields in the old
element as well.

(2) free_htab_elem() (through htab_put_fd_value())
Its caller includes __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_elem(),
htab_map_delete_elem() and __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_batch().

For htab_map_delete_elem(), simply invoke free_htab_elem() after
htab_unlock_bucket(). For __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_batch(), just
like lru map, linking the to-be-freed element into node_to_free list
and invoking free_htab_elem() for these element after unlock. It is safe
to reuse batch_flink as the link for node_to_free, because these
elements have been removed from the hash llist.

Because htab of maps doesn't support lookup_and_delete operation,
__htab_map_lookup_and_delete_elem() doesn't have the problem, so kept
it as is.

(3) fd_htab_map_free()
It invokes ->map_fd_put_ptr without raw_spinlock_t.

(4) bpf_fd_htab_map_update_elem()
It invokes ->map_fd_put_ptr without raw_spinlock_t.

After moving free_htab_elem() outside htab bucket lock scope, using
pcpu_freelist_push() instead of __pcpu_freelist_push() to disable
the irq before freeing elements, and protecting the invocations of
bpf_mem_cache_free() with migrate_{disable|enable} pair.

The root cause is: creating large files during disable checkpoint
period results in not enough free segments, so when writing back root
inode will failed in f2fs_enable_checkpoint. When umount the file
system after enabling checkpoint, the root inode is dirty in
f2fs_evict_inode function, which triggers BUG_ON. The steps to
reproduce are as follows:

dd if=/dev/zero of=f2fs.img bs=1M count=55
mount f2fs.img f2fs_dir -o checkpoint=disable:10%
dd if=/dev/zero of=big bs=1M count=50
sync
rm big
mount -o remount,checkpoint=enable f2fs_dir
umount f2fs_dir

Let's redirty inode when there is not free segments during checkpoint
is disable.

Commit bab1c29 ("LoongArch: Fix sleeping in atomic context in

This is because in PREEMPT_RT kernels normal spinlocks are replaced by
rt spinlocks and rt_spin_lock() will cause sleeping. Fix it by disabling
NUMA optimization completely for PREEMPT_RT kernels.

…A in a MM

[ Upstream commit 091c1dd ]

We currently assume that there is at least one VMA in a MM, which isn't
true.

So we might end up having find_vma() return NULL, to then de-reference
NULL. So properly handle find_vma() returning NULL.

This fixes the report:

So only flush the local TLB and let the lazy kfence page fault handling
deal with the faults which could happen when a core has an old protected
pte version cached in its TLB. That leads to potential inaccuracies which
can be tolerated when using kfence.

syzbot found [1] that after blamed commit, ub->ubsock->sk
was NULL when attempting the atomic_dec() :

atomic_dec(&tipc_net(sock_net(ub->ubsock->sk))->wq_count);

Fix this by caching the tipc_net pointer.

It is unclear if net/lapb code is supposed to be ready for 8021q.

We can at least avoid crashes like the following :

Check if we need to call hci_devcd_complete before calling
hci_devcd_append. That requires that we check data->cd_info.cnt >=
MTK_COREDUMP_NUM instead of data->cd_info.cnt > MTK_COREDUMP_NUM, as we
increment data->cd_info.cnt only once the call to hci_devcd_append
succeeds.

commit 07a756a upstream.

If the KVP (or VSS) daemon starts before the VMBus channel's ringbuffer is
fully initialized, we can hit the panic below:

hv_utils: Registering HyperV Utility Driver
hv_vmbus: registering driver hv_utils
...
BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000000
CPU: 44 UID: 0 PID: 2552 Comm: hv_kvp_daemon Tainted: G E 6.11.0-rc3+ #1

 <TASK>
 asm_sysvec_hyperv_stimer0
...
 kvp_register_done
 hvt_op_read
 vfs_read
 ksys_read
 __x64_sys_read

This can happen because the KVP/VSS channel callback can be invoked
even before the channel is fully opened:
1) as soon as hv_kvp_init() -> hvutil_transport_init() creates
/dev/vmbus/hv_kvp, the kvp daemon can open the device file immediately and
register itself to the driver by writing a message KVP_OP_REGISTER1 to the
file (which is handled by kvp_on_msg() ->kvp_handle_handshake()) and
reading the file for the driver's response, which is handled by
hvt_op_read(), which calls hvt->on_read(), i.e. kvp_register_done().

2) the problem with kvp_register_done() is that it can cause the
channel callback to be called even before the channel is fully opened,
and when the channel callback is starting to run, util_probe()->
vmbus_open() may have not initialized the ringbuffer yet, so the
callback can hit the panic of NULL pointer dereference.

To reproduce the panic consistently, we can add a "ssleep(10)" for KVP in
__vmbus_open(), just before the first hv_ringbuffer_init(), and then we
unload and reload the driver hv_utils, and run the daemon manually within
the 10 seconds.

Fix the panic by reordering the steps in util_probe() so the char dev
entry used by the KVP or VSS daemon is not created until after
vmbus_open() has completed. This reordering prevents the race condition
from happening.
