French (in the Aosta Valley), German (in South Tyrol), Slovene (in Trieste, Gorizia and Udine) and Ladin (in South Tyrol and Trentino) are co-official languages in Italy.
Therefore, the app should be available in those languages as well. I‘m sure the regional authorities can provide help with these translations.

@debiff what about the solution proposed by @bhack?

Given that we now have a plan to start using a specific tool to manage localized content, I believe that this issue can be closed (too broad) and rather include a paragraph in the docs explaining what is the policy and possibily expose a translation's roadmap via our official channels @Undermaken

Hello, how can I help on the project German translation? I am a German native speaker, living in Italy since last year.

A warm welcome to Italy @Hintzman :-)
You can currenly contribute by editing this file - to see what is missing you shall compare it to the IT one under locales.

Just send a PR when you think you have something to add, even the smallest contribution is very welcome at this stage.
As I wrote above, the content will eventually migrate to a proper CMS but this will stick around for a while.

Ciao, hello, hallo!
Maybe I can help out with German translation. Is there anything to do or have you just finished your work?

Hi to all!
I can/will start to translate to slovenian. But my first question is how to deal with plural forms? Italian have 2 forms, slovenian 3 or 4. Eg:
unread_singular: "{{messages}} nuovo messaggio"
unread_plural: "{{messages}} nuovi messaggi"
in slovenian there are 4 variants: for 1, for 2, for 3 and 4, for 5 and more...

Thank you

Can regional languages be added? For instance, I mean Sardinian or Neapolitan language and so on. I think adding those languages in an institutional app like app.io may give them the dignity they deserve.

I could help for translating into Sardinian.

Il sardo è una lingua ufficiale al pari del francese in Val d'Aosta o del tedesco nell'alto Adige o dello sloveno in Venezia Giulia.
Io sono romano ma mi rendo conto che il romanesco non ha dignità di lingua al contrario del sardo, analogamente lo direi per il napoletano. Ma il sardo è diverso in quanto è tuttora una lingua autonoma e sufficientemente diversa dall'italiano in quanto un dialetto del latino non dell'italiano
