My github webpage is not updating after changes are made.
Can someone please explain what is wrong and how I can see the results of changes to my webpage?

Hi!

Changes made to a Github Pages page do not appear as they are made, as Github uses CDN caching for Pages, there is a small delay for changes to be reflected on the actual page. You can overcome this by clearing your site cache, as well as some other tricks that are outlined in this Stack Overflow question.

@D7EAD This also helped me. In my case, I just had to go to the "Deployments" page from "Environment" > "GitHub-Pages". I just didn't give my page enough time to deploy. Once I confirmed it did, my changes were added. Thank-you for sharing the Stack Overflow link as this solution was highlighted there. @johnshearing thank-you for sharing your question and solution.

I am having similar issues. I did a commit of three, pre-existing files to my github pages repo. The files were all PDFs and all were small-change edits. Of the three files, ONE is showing up as updated outside the repo. The other two are still loading the previous revisions. I tried "breaking the cache" to no avail. I have flushed my browsers and even used a PC that I recently obtained which hasn't been to my github pages site yet. Nothing seems to work (I am at T+18 hours and counting since the commits). The "build process" is a new concept for me RE github pages. In the past I have simply pushed new commits and the updated files would be fetchable after a short time and maybe a browser cache-flush. This is the first time I've had this issue. Is the "rebuild" automatic? In any case, I am reasonably certain that the updated files are in the repo (I can view them inside the repo and they are correct) AND those files are not making it out through the pages path (so it isn't a browser cache issue). Beyond that, I am out of ideas.

Thanks for the help @D7EAD. Usually it takes a few minutes but this time it took several hours for the changes to show up on my webpage. In any case I used the meta tags as shown on the stack overflow issue you pointed me to.

For me, the reason why my GitHub webpage didn't updated after changes were made is that the repository's visibility was set to private..
Perhaps, you could check if your repository's visibility is set to public first.

I had the same problem. I used to have a pro plan, and I was using the private repository. Now, it seems not to be working since I have changed to a free plan.

For me no meta tags were needed, all I did was to:

1. Click on the page repo in question
2. Click Settings
3. In the left pane, click Pages
4. look in the page where they say something like Your site is live at https://iamlost.faith/
5. At the very right of this div, there is a [...] button (just beside "Visit Page" Click it!)
6. Then click Unpublish site
7. after that reload this page. and for mine it said : Last deployed by @tati-z tati-z 1 minutes ago

it work for me. after clicking unpublish site.. repeat the process. Source -- deploy from branch, branch re select none then save, then again select main then save. wait for like 5minutes or less.... it will be publish again with all the changes.. thanks tati-z

I was able to get it back by first changing repo from private to public. Then go to setttngs>pages> deploy from source. You have to change it to public to see the build from source UI for free.

The solution that worked for me is, re-running the jobs of the workflow, by going to 'Actions', clicking on the 'page-build-deployment', and re-running all the jobs, by clicking on the 're-run all jobs' button on top right, and once the page is built and deployed, I was able to see all the changes I made.

I have a similar problem. On some days, if I make some changes to a file and commit, it updates the website. On other days, if I make similar changes to the same file, it won't update. I tried all the aforementioned solutions, noting worked :(

My repository is public.

I cleared my browser cache.

Unpublish and republish the website

Re-run all jobs.

...despite the submodule being public, and despite GitHub supposedly supporting it. I expect that the problem was that GitHub was trying to recursively clone the submodules' submodules, and one of them contains a private repository.

The solution for me was go through every component and file and fix every problem and suggestion that showed in the terminal. This updated my deployed pages instantly.

I followed the suggestion to unpublish because for 8 hours my code change I can verify in the file is not displayed on the web site. Now I cannot republish. What are the steps? "Pages" gives me no option that resumes publishing the site.
