About the PR

Adds the 'Ugol' shuttle, functionally similar to the Camper.

Why / Balance

While it is similar to the Camper, Ugol provides more space for modifications done by the players (cargo bay, bedroom and restroom, main hall), has more thrusters to provide better mobility (with a uranium generator to power them), and a dedicated EVA airlock in front of the ship.

How to test

Buy it, fly it, use it, sell it.

Ah I have my cup of coffee and it's time to tour a shuttle that sounds like it looks.

First impressions: What a name.

  1. Cargo bay.

I like this little space. It has a nice feel and it's a good way to get maximum utility out of the need for an airlock. However I feel very strongly that you'll want to replace your airlocks leading outside with the glass variety.

Good job ensuring that your filth is all cleanable.

Nice decal work by the extinguisher/defib.

  1. Engineering

Seems pretty polished up. The EVA locker by the egress bay does like to scoop up toolboxes. Something maybe worth keeping in mind.

The additional firelock under the airlock, while I get it's there for the fire alarm, is adding some redundant functionality at present.

  1. Main galley:
  • Nice tilework. Feels gross but in a homey kind of way.
  • I would add a frame around your shutter button. Naked buttons can kind of vanish from view. Just a consideration.
  • I feel like it might be nice to move the shuttle console to the middle, but that's a personal preference. That space might be investigated a bit further to find a good solution to the pilot/co-pilot piece. I setup a quick alternative configuration which allows you to basically sprint straight forward into the seat while giving everyone else some space to move. Just a notion.

  1. Overall
  • Air sensors are very good for addressing changes in large spaces. In this shuttle you can probably do without them.
  • While it's your call you might get a little more shape variety and not lose much from a practical standpoint by dropping the two side small thrusters. As a small thruster appreciator I get it but you might find it to be ultimately beneficial.
  • You can probably cut down your air alarms a bit. One per room isn't a requirement and you don't have many that you need to be concerned with.
  • I'm not sure if the air alarms are currently setup to do much, given the lack of space and firelocks some appear to be largely without specific function that wouldn't be accomplished automatically. However I appreciate the safety mindset.

This is a rather nice shuttle with a charming presentation! It makes very good use of sparse space and the only real pieces that stood out to me concerned the thrusters, some pieces that might stray into over engineering and some fiddly thoughts regarding the cockpit.

Thank you for giving my cup of coffee something nice to walk through with me!

Thank you for taking a look at my ship, Dusty.
I tried working on things you've pointed out:

ugol_v2_1
ugol_v2_2

I feel like it might be nice to move the shuttle console to the middle, but that's a personal preference.

The railing setup you suggested feels a little bit nicer. The pilot's seat will stay in the same place for better vision (I replaced the wall with the button with a shuttle window to aid it)

I would add a frame around your shutter button.

I won't be adding frames to buttons other than the one in the cockpit since they are not removable by the player (for some reason)

Air sensors are very good for addressing changes in large spaces. ... You can probably cut down your air alarms a bit.

I've reduced the amount of air alarms to 2 (one for engineering and cargo bay, one for the rest of the ship, though one for the entire ship might be enough (?)), fire alarms to 3, removed the air sensors (vents and scrubbers sense air too, who would've thought!).

...you might get a little more shape variety and not lose much from a practical standpoint by dropping the two side small thrusters.

After comparing the ship with and without additional side thrusters, the difference in handling between them was minimal, so I removed them.

The EVA locker by the egress bay does like to scoop up toolboxes.

There's now an additional locker in the frontal airlock for storing the toolboxes, I also relocated the substation closer to the center of the ship.

However I feel very strongly that you'll want to replace your airlocks leading outside with the glass variety.

Replaced the airlocks at the cargo bay with glass variants and shifted the light's locations. Not sure if I like them transparent though.

(just to stress my reflections are entirely that of just a fellow community member)

... You're going to hate me but damned if you weren't right about the external airlocks in the cargo bay. I personally prefer transparent airlocks so you're not surprised by anyone on the other side but it does take something away from the claustrophobic nature of the room. I'm going to give you full credit for that one.

Being said, I wonder if the cargo bay wouldn't benefit in a small way by having its own orientation flipped to match the cockpit. If the railing system was flipped you could walk right from the airlock directly the cockpit in a straight line. Which might feel a bit better?

ss+(2025-01-03+at+10 15 49)

  • I think the cockpit orientation looks nice! I wish that we had a way to integrate the stations records computer at times like these so the fax machine could sit up in the co-pilot's seat. But this looks like a really tidy arrangement.

  • Technically buttons aren't supposed to be sitting on windows. It might get a tsk tsk from a maptainer and a request to move it to where the painting currently sits.

  • I might consider playing around with the fire alarm systems some more. I don't know if they're currently functioning exactly as desired.

  • The comment on the button frames not being preferable for customization is totally valid. It would be nice to have that addressed someday.

  • As a mapping piece, we generally map lattice tiles under thrusters. As opposed to catwalks/reinforced whatevers. So that's something you may be asked to change.

I personally remain very charmed by this shuttle!

I'll redo the change on the airlocks in the next update,
just to explain the placement of the railing: I put them there specifically to prevent connection induced rubber-banding forcing you out of the shuttle once you hop out of your seat. It's fairly easy for the player to remove the railing if they don't like it (there are even tools that come with the shuttle to do just that!), so I'll keep it the way it is.
Not sure what I can do about the fire alarms.
The window button will go to the wall for sure! (probably)
I like how the hull plating looks under thrusters on the ship right now, I'll replace it with lattice if I'll get asked to do so by the maintainers.

The fire alarms are your choice to add, at the present they are not strictly required.

I appreciate your vision for the railing. It's logical! Thank you for sharing your reasoning!

Give a shout if you would like a hand with any of the guidebook stuff. Those would be good to have incorporated as the PR keeps moving forward. Again, I think you've done a lovely job of constructing an interesting shuttle in the minimum viable space. Which is a challenge!

I think a guidebook for the shuttle would do great, I'd appreciate it if you decide to help me with it
