The following are some assumptions about your organisation.

Publishing occurs at a total rate between 1-100/minute per organisation
Incrementing a version occurs at a rate between 0-10/day per organisation
Your workstation has a local file-system with plenty of available disk-space.
You are working against a shared file-system
You spend between 1 to 100 weeks on a single project.
