Where there's just a list, there is no county council and the ceremonial county is made up of the authorities. Where there's nothing in brackets, the county is just the county council or unitary authority itself. E&OE.

• * The part of Stockton-on-Tees north of the River Tees is in Durham, the part to the south is part of North Yorkshire. No council ward crosses the river, so you can group the wards together to form the county correctly.
