When gimx-launcher is started a file named gimx-launcher_<username>_Guard is created in the users home directory. This file appears to store the process id of the gimx-launcher instance, but the gimx-launcher code doesn't seem to do anything with it because the code is commented out.
I think it would be more appropriate to create this file as a hidden/dot file either in the users home directory, or in the gimx-launcher config directory.
