Please Add Federated Timeline/Feature Parity #485
Comments
Dear @Gargron , the federated timeline of any #Mastodon community is our gateway to the fediverse, to other communities, to interesting people who is followed by our peers in the same community, it is our exploration window to enjoy the richness and diversity of the Activitypub ecosystem. Could you please consider to show the federated timeline in the official mastodon client? This would compensate the centralisation effect coming after mastodon.social was set as default instance in the client. |

To follow up on this real quick the explore tab does not serve the same function for someone like me on a single user instance not looking to find explore topics through hashtags. It could easily be added behind a toggle in settings If it isn't meant to be as user facing and this should also be the case on the web ui if that's the goal imo. I unfortunately don't anticipate this happening anymore from what I've read so far and I've just resorted to using Megalodon but I sincerely hope it can be reconsidered in the future as I'd prefer to not be excluded from using the official app just to have access to a feature I use daily on the web ui. Fingers crossed for any future changes to the roadmap. 🤞 |
I understand the concern of being held responsible for content in the federated timeline by the play/app store but I fail to see why this isn't at least planned on being implemented when many 3rd party apps are achieving much closer feature parity to the WebUI and include this without being taken down. Even if it's disabled by default for new users this is an important feature to the way that I consume new content on Mastodon. I'm not always looking for a specific topic through hashtags but just want to see random posts from people federating with my instance and surely I'm not the only one. I also don't believe people who sign up on mobile and never use the WebUI deserve to be locked out of features that they may enjoy trying but don't know exist. Please reconsider implementing the Federated timeline to the iOS and Android apps and thank you for reading! (This is also still the top "👍"d feature request open on Mastodon-iOS)
