As we have discussed via email, the soloshot uses bluetooth according to test reports from the FCC

since bluetooth 5.1, long range feature has been added which is called coded phy, using this feature you can achieve up to ~1km (3000feet) range in open area, i have ordered a couple beacons from China to test the range while surfing, once confirmed i would custom order a wrist band with Bluetooth, Gps, Accelerometer sensors and then see how to use all this for tracking.

@s3ni0r Thank you for gathering this information. I'm still unsure if Soloshot really uses Bluetooth. Could it not also use another 2.4 GHz transmitter (e.g. Zigbee)?

@maiermic i'm quite sure they use mainly bluetooth for communication between the base and the tag, the FCC did only talk about bluetooth in their reports (FHSS : Frequency-hopping spread spectrum)

I'm trying to sniff the tag's data over the air, but need to buy a proper BLE sniffer as i can't see anything using the NRF connect app on my iphone 13 or Samsung galaxy S9.

@maiermic actually you might be right about zigbee/thread usage on the tag side, i didn't pay attention to the modulation 802.15.4 in the report.

anyway it will not change my plan to sniff the data over the air using this Dongle from Nordic semiconductor that support Zigbee/Thread/BLE ...
