Could show it in a block quote before the main content.

Not as easy as that, though:

some entries only have a summary (no content)
some entries have a summary that's (almost) identical to the content
some entries have a summary with more stuff than the content (the content is actually the summary)

Marking as core too, since giving people data that's as correct as possible isn't only related to the web app.
