With the build of today, the start screen after creating a database looks like follows:

grafik

I can let the bar be shown:

grafik

  1. Is it possible to show the social icons only if there is enough space? (Maybe split the bar?)
  2. Is it possible to reduce the size between the search and the save icon?
  3. Is it possible to move the social icons to the right of the menu bar (accepting that they won't be shown on Mac OS X - will they?)

I can life with facebook being dropped. On twitter, we can get approx one follower each week. - And we intensivate this communication channel.

Suggestion: add telemetry events for all buttons in the menu (if not already down) and then decide for 5.1 based on the data which buttons to keep.

Personally, I think the 6 right most buttons can be removed and undo/redo as well; maybe even delete entry.

This is more of an inelegant workaround than a solution, but the "No content" message could be replaced with a minimal instruction such as "Welcome to JabRef. To start adding entries to your library ... " (As if you had not already thought of this).
