They will be created when you run autoreconf.
This is the default for newer Automake versions, but better be explicit.
It is a deprecated alias for LT_INIT
They are both in C89 and if your system does not support that you have bigger problems.

Looking over this, most of this is fine by me, although I do prefer to keep the configure script in the tree as a few people do not have the autofoo stuff installed. karl. |

for release builds, not in-between releases, which quite a few get hold of for one reason or another. karl. |
