Curious why many of the "family" style emojis were replaced with less detailed versions? |
This was a recommendation made by the Emoji Subcommittee as part of transitioning away from detailed family emoji, whose sheer number of possible variations caused issues. You can read more about this recommendation here (PDF download of accepted proposal). |

This includes the remaining missing emoji for 15.1 (per #78) as well as updates to the existing family emoji.
