The "I had bigger plans, but they'll have to wait" release.

Changes:

  • made changes to the audio subsystem that reduce the chance of timing failures during synthesis
  • improved compatibility with some Samsung TVs
  • fix video info codes of 16:9 modes
  • avoid excessive screen blanking during menu transitions in some games (e.g. Eternal Darkness)
  • add 486-to-480 cropping for GBI

This release mainly fixes some Wii issues:

  • auto-detects two different board revisions of WiiDual, which could manifest as various issues when using previous versions on the unsupported board version:
    • fixes glitchy-looking analog RGB video
    • fixes VData0 error in diagnostics
    • fixes non-working flasher
    • fixes 480p detected as 960i
    • BUT: This does not come for free, support for the separate VSync output and the undocumented mode switch pin had to be disabled on WiiDual. This should affect only a tiny minority of users.
  • removed RGB line swap for analog output on WiiDual, it now uses the same WiiDual-specific (non-Nintendo) RGB pinout as the stock WiiDual firmware
  • improved boot-up speed and stability for all Wii builds, no more black screens after WC24 standby (needs a full reflash to fully apply, using the updater only fixes the WC24 standby issue)
  • added a menu entry for starting ihe IR button configuration
  • Wii updater is now packaged with a meta.xml file for convenient use in the Homebrew Channel

Some bugfixes, some minor features:

  • add GCPlug hardware configuration
  • add diagnostics mode in flasher
  • fix handling of uncompressed chunks in flasher
  • add workaround to never use uncompressed chunks in buildupdate.pl

Although the bug in the flasher is quite serious on its own, the workaround added to the update builder in this release makes it perfectly safe to keep using the flasher from an older release, so you don't need to dismantle your console yet again.

Bugfix release:

  • fixes inverted colors on Wii-Dual boards
  • hopefully fixes startup issues ("Booting main firmware failed!") as seen on some Wii installs

If you do not experience such a boot failure on your system, you can upgrade using the built-in firmware upgrade system.

Thanks to @kimbapslice for patiently flashing lots of test builds to get to the bottom of the Wii startup issue.

Major bugfix release:

  • fix flash corruption when saving settings

WARNING: There have been multiple reports that this version fails to boot correctly on Wii installations. If you plan to flash it to a board installed in a Wii, be aware that you may need to re-flash with a 2.x version and attempt another upgrade at a later time when the problem has been solved.

A few new features, including a firmware update system to install future updates (BUT NOT THIS ONE) by running a bit of homebrew software on the console.

This release contains a major bug related to storing settings, please use 3.0a instead. If you have already installed 3.0, it is safe to use the internal update function to install 3.0a.

New features:

  • attempted to improve signal compatibility
  • non-standard mode detection
  • automatic processing bypass for non-standard modes
  • automatic image centering, with optional image shift
  • more flexible scanline strength including hybrid
  • scanline profiles
  • infrastructure for installing future firmware updates via console
  • faster startup time
  • analog component output signal range workaround
  • YCbCr 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 output options
  • advanced options menu for disabling parts of the image processing
  • less strict gamepad snooper timing to fix GC+ compatibility

Note: If you want to use FPGAconf to program a Pluto IIx-HDMI board, you need to use the faked bitstream files from Issue #24 instead of the data from the release archive.
