Ranger uses the terminal emulator, so making a rule that opens ranger default in the special workspace also means that every time I open my terminal, this will also be opened in the special workspace.
Two options to solve this and both helped me out.

  1. I installed a second terminal emulator (alacritty) besides my primary one, kitty and start ranger with alacritty -e ranger, with a rule to open this in the special workspace. This way I keep kitty available for my other workspaces.
  2. Start ranger using kitty, but adding a script to hyprland.conf, using: hyprctl keyword windowrule "workspace unset, kitty"
    Both options solved my problem.....
